All happiness depends on a leisurely breakfast.

Bret was still sound asleep cuddled against his new lover. He gave a soft sigh when Desmond moved.

Desmond tilted his head to look at the clock, frowning when he saw the time. He gently shook Bret, trying to rouse him. "Bret? Bret, I need to get up and start opening the store."

Bret wearily opened his eyes. "Mmmh?" He hummed questioningly. "What time is it?" He mumbled, nuzzling Desmond's shoulder.

"Almost six, Bret. I gotta open in two hours, and we have to have breakfast first," Desmond said, petting Bret's hair. "So we gotta get up, okay?"

"Hmmm, now?" He mumbled, obviously still half asleep. "Can't we stay here a bit longer?" He asked, his fingers lightly brushing Desmond's stomach.

"No, Bret. C'mon, please get up?" he whined, shivering at the touch. "I'm gonna be running late as it is."

"Fine" Bret sighed. "But I want a kiss first" he reasoned

"Well..." Desmond bit his lip and turned his face away, peering suspiciously at Bret from the corner of his eye. "I guess just a kiss shouldn't take too long..." He leaned over Bret, his hands positioned on either side of the man's head, and slowly put his head down to kiss him tenderly on the lips.

Bret smiled lightly and slipped his tongue along Desmond's lips lightly. His arm wrapped loosely around Desmond's shoulders and he hummed happily. Nothing could ruin a day that started off as good as this.

Desmond blushed darkly and tried halfheartedly to pull away. "Bret, h-honey, I really need to go downstairs and get ready to open... And I can't do anything until I've had breakfast."

"Why don't you let me make breakfast?" Bret smiled as he pulled Desmond back down lightly so he could nuzzle his neck. "I'm pretty good at my job"

"Oh, but..! But you're a guest! I shouldn't make you work! I'm supposed to make breakfast for you!" he said, chewing his lip. "But... but if you really want to..." He didn't really want to let his new boyfriend do work when he was a guest at the house, but he was more curious to see how good of a cook Bret was.

Bret nuzzled his neck again before carefully getting up and finding his pants in the confusion of clothes on the floor. "You wanna watch?" He grinned over his shoulder as he walked toward the stairs to the restaurant below. "Or am I bringing it back up for you?"

"No, no, I'll come watch. I don't want to make you do any more work than necessary. Just give me a few minutes to get ready. I need to pick out a coat for today."

Desmond headed downstairs about ten minutes later, mostly dressed, and he was carrying two chef coats. "What do you think, Bret? Light pink or brown with gold buttons?"

Bret glanced up from where he was frying Bacon at the stove. "Brown. It brings out the rosy color of your cheeks" He smiled. "How do you like your eggs?" he asked, expertly flipping the bacon before turning his attention to some french toast.

"However you want to make them, dear," he said, slipping the coat on and hanging the pink one on the back of a chair. "That bacon smells really good, Bret."

"Bacon always smells good." Bret smiled. "Its like an unwritten rule, just like that you have to put your tooth under your pillow for the tooth fairy or that santa won't come if you're awake at midnight"

Desmond giggled cutely and covered his mouth with his hands. "That's adorable, Bret," he said, not mentioning that he still made a point to be asleep before midnight on Christmas.

"Glad you think so. Alice thinks I'm nuts" Bret chuckled.

Bret kissed Desmond's cheek before smiling and heading towards the door. "See you tonight at close, right?" he asked over his shoulder. "I'll call you when I go on break"

"Okay! I look forward to it! Byeeee Bret!" he said, waving enthusiastically.

Despite his late start, Desmond managed to get everything set up before he got his first customers, and he had one of his most profitable days since he'd opened the store. He smiled widely, thinking that Bret must have been his good luck charm.

When Bret showed after the shop closed for the night, Desmond was waiting for him. His chef coat was mostly unbuttoned and hung low on his shoulders, showing the tank top that he had underneath, and he was swinging his feet merrily.

Bret wasted no time in closing the distance between them. He wrapped his arms around him and buried his face in his shoulder, just inhaling his scent. "I missed you" he whispered. "I couldn't stop thinking about you all day. May I... May I kiss you?"

Desmond let out a little sigh of pleasure as he supped a hand around the back of Bret's neck. "Yes, Bret. Yes. Please do. I thought about you all day, too, and it was such a great day. You must be my lucky charm, Bret."

Bret smiled and pressed their lips together softly in a chaste kiss. "Am I? Do you really think?" He purred "Does that mean I get to see you more?"

"Of course, Bret! Of course. I..." he stammered, blushing. "I, uhm, I'd really like to, uhm, see you every day for a long time. If, uh, that's what you want, too, of course..." They hadn't really discussed their plans the previous night, but Bret was there so Desmond thought that the man probably wanted a real relationship with him. Guys didn't cuddle you and compliment you and make you breakfast if they weren't really interested in you, did they?

"Does that mean I can be your boyfriend?" Bret whispered in his ear. "Am I good enough for you? You're so perfect, you deserve the very best"
