Phoenix leaded back with his ass planted firmly on the hood of his black firebird. In the field in front of him, his younger, yet taller brother, practiced soccer while he waited for his practice partner to show up.

It wasn't long before the awaited beat-up truck chugged into view. The native American man that climbed out of the truck wasn't alone today, which was unusual.

Coyote clambered out of the big pick-up truck, stumbling and nearly falling on his face in the process. Somehow, whenever he rode in that truck, he always managed to forget how far it was to the ground on the way out. He regained his balance, cheeks flushed with just a tinge of red under his brown skin, and pushed his glasses up from where they had slid down to the tip of his nose.

He didn't really want to be there, but his mother had told him to get out of the house, and had practically forced him on his cousin for the day. He knew his cousin didn't like him, and that made things all the more uncomfortable. Why in the world she'd thought he would want to go with Lyric to play soccer he did not know; he hated sports. He was a chubby guy and, embarrassed by that fact as he sometimes was, he liked it that way.

He could see Lyric's friend eyeing him curiously, and his blush deepened in color. He could only imagine what kind of a fool he must have looked like, practically falling out of the truck.

Way to make a good first impression, Coyote Cries-To-The-Moon, he thought to himself, sighing heavily.

Pheonix raised a brow before turning his attention back to the native american werewolf. "He's already to play fetch, Rover" He chuckled.

Lyric gave him an unamused look. "Burn in hell Pheonix."

"You know I'm fireproof."

"I'll give you Angel's phone number if you babysit my cousin."

"Don't want it. But he can hang out with me over here, I don't care if he does."

Lyric shrugged. He turned to Coyote with a small glare. "Don't embarrass me." He growled before making his way put onto the soccer field to play with the blond.

Pheonix stared after him with an amused little smirk. "Ass" He chuckled lightly.

Coyote plopped himself down on the ground by the Firebird's left wheel with a heavy sigh. He brushed a stray black hair out of his face and looked up at Phoenix with a frustrated look on his face. "Damn right he is. I've met alligators more friendly than Lyric."

His mind went back to the car ride there, and his face suddenly burned with embarrassment as he thought of the taunting he'd had to endure for the entire trip. Sometimes, most of the time, really, he hated Lyric.

"I've met demons more friendly than Lyric. And that's saying something considering Werewolves are supposed to be the guardians of the earth." Phoenix chuckled. He looked over to Coyote. "Phoenix Enfearo. And you are? I assume you don't want me to call you Lyric's cousin all day. That's a curse in its own right."

Coyote awkwardly hopped to his feet, wiped his hands on his pants, and stiffly held one out to Phoenix. "C-Coyote. Coyote Cries-To-The-Moon. It's a pleasure to meet you." He gave Phoenix a wavering, nervous smile.

Phoenix shook Coyote's hand with another chuckle. "So what got you stuck with our grumpy friend today?" he asked. "I've never known him to willingly bring a friend with him to help Angel. He doesn't really seem the type."

Coyote sighed and hunched his shoulders, shooting Lyric an unhappy glare out of the corner of his eye. "My mom's cleaning the house today, so she pawned me off on him."

"Ouch." Phoenix stated in sympathy. "Wanna ditch 'em and go get ice cream? My treat." He smiled. "Gotta be better than sitting around her watching them practice."

Coyote's face split into a wide, goofy grin. "YEAH! That'd be awes-" he stopped, cutting himself short, and started again in a more calm voice. "Uhm, I mean, yeah. ...That sounds cool."

Phoenix pretended to purse his lips. "Just cool? I must be loosing my touch then." He smirked. "Better make it pizza and ice cream."

"Ah-" Coyote began, his mouth hanging open in surprise. He blushed and quickly shut his mouth, really doing his best to not look like a total idiot in front of his new (possible) friend. "Uhm, thank you, Phoenix. That's real nice of you." He rubbed his foot against the back of his leg nervously as he spoke; he was never really sure how to react when people did nice things for him because it happened so rarely.

"Not a problem. Just hop in." Phoenix smiled. "And its all my treat so don't worry about it. Its a whole hell of a lot better than sitting here and doing nothing"

Coyote ran a hand back through his hair nervously and smiled. "Gee, thanks, Phoenix. You're a real cool guy, yanno?" He kicked his shoes on the pavement a few times to make sure they were clean before he got into Phoenix's nice car. He made sure to buckle his seatbelt as soon as he got in and sat there stiffly, trying not to mess anything up.

"I've heard some things" Phoenix chuckled as he joined him in the car. "So what first? Pizza or ice cream?" He grinned at him.

Coyote blushed and smiled back timidly. "Life's short, eat dessert first."

Pheonix looked at him blankly before cracking a grin. "That's funny, I like it." He stated, starting his car.

Coyote laughed and settled back more comfortably in his seat. "You've never heard that before?" he asked, smiling. "That's funny. So, where are we getting ice cream from, anyway?"

"Cold stone" Phoenix grinned. "Only place to get ice cream from." He pulled out of the empty lot and headed towards town. "Then we can go right next door to cici's pizza"

"Oooh!" Coyote said excitedly, his eyes sparkling. "I love Cold Stone! I barely ever get to go there, though. Lyric only likes that nasty, cheap soft-serve stuff. What do you usually get, Phoenix?" He flashed Phoenix an endearing smile.

Coyote had a habit of letting exactly what he was feeling show on his face; he was just a very transparent person, because he had nothing to hide. Right then he was feeling really pleased that his new friend had the same tastes in things as him. Not to mention that neither of them liked Lyric.

"I really like mint ice cream, but I like to try whatever their special is when I do go." Phoenix replied. "Usually I take a girl after a date, just for a sweet treat, but I haven't had much luck with girls after my last gal dumped me hard for another guy." He flashed Coyote another smile. "What do you like?"

Coyote ran his hand through his hair again; it was a nervous tic of his and Phoenix's pretty smile was making him very nervous. "Chocolate ice cream with brownie pieces and fudge." He could feel his cheeks get hot and he looked away, suddenly very self-conscious.

"Somebody really likes chocolate~" Phoenix smirked. "I haven't tried that one yet, is it any good?"
