Negau wandered between the trees in the park aimlessly. He had just made his latest and greatest escape from his home world to earth and planned to stay as long as he could. As long as possible.

Talmara had gotten worse. Negau was still walking with a slight limp because of what he had tried to do to his knee. The Delta that was ment to watch him was probably already dead. Talmara didn't like when he escaped. But he knew that he would have to return. He always returned eventually.

He stopped and sat at the base of a tree, closing his eyes. He didn't even know where he was, but he didn't care.

Evania had just escaped from class. Math was so boring. She never understood why people other than architects and computer geeks had to learn mathematical properties above addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

She liked coming to the park. Nature appealed to her. It was less constraining than normal society, where everything had rules. It was easier to talk to people too. Trying to talk to anyone in school usually resulted in teachers telling you to shut up or move along. That, as far as she was concerned, defeated the purpose of school preparing you for life. Communication and being able to deal with people was the most important skill, right?

The raven-haired girl didn't see many people at the park today. Just an old elderly couple, a guy who often was walking his two dogs here, and someone resting against the tree. The old lovers seem to enjoy being alone, and she knew the dogs the man walked weren't friendly to strangers, so she decided to greet the person by the tree.

"Hi there! What's you name?"

Negau hesitantly opened his eyes. Or at least one of them. He remained silent, choosing to close his eye again and pretend that he wasn't there. His arms were crossed over his chest, mostly to hide the large bloody rip in his sleeve that didn't want to heal because of whatever Talmara had slathered on the steel rod. The bones were slowly mending and he didn't feel safe enough to try and move, and strangers made him nervous. The one thing he had learned early on in the human world was that if you were still long enough, most humans left you alone.

"Hey, I'm talking to you," said Evania with some annoyance. The boy had looked at her, so he knew she was there. "At least say hi back or something."

"Hi" Negau rasped softly. He shifted with a small wince as it jostled his wounded arm.

Evania noted the pained look on his face in concern. "Are you okay?"

Negau nodded quickly, hunching in on himself to hide his arm.

Evania was not convinced. "You don't look well. Do you want me to get a doctor or something?"

Negau shook his head hurriedly. "N-no... N-no d-doctors" he mumbled hurriedly, curling around himself even more.

Evania frowned. She cupped her hand against his forehead to check for fever.

Negau's skin was cool to the touch, and, the longer she touched it, it felt like it was sucking the warmth from her hand. It didn't feel like it was clammy, just cold. He shivered lightly at the introduction of warmth.

Evania drew her hand away in confused concern. Hypothermia? But he wasn't showing any other symptoms...

"How long have you been out here?" asked Evania as she sat down next to him. She took off her coat and draped it over him.

"Not long. Its nice out." Negau mumbled in response. He shrugged her coat back off.

(Negau has a rare birth defect among my demons. instead of spouting warmth like a furnace like all the others, he absorbs it to keep his body an appropriately cool temperature on his hell like home world. His temperature normally hovers around 10^C which is 50^F)

(does that mean that Kimi is usually very warm to the touch? Or is she like her brother?)

Evania stubbornly put the coat back on him. No one should be that cold.

"Where do you live?" asked Evania. "Actually, who are you? I haven't seen you around before, and this place is pretty small."

"Hel'Ruc" Negau replied. "I'm from Hel'Ruc" He shrugged the coat off once again.

(yeah, she's a little warm to the touch. but not as much as other demons.)

"Hel'Ruc?" asked Evania, blinking. "Never heard of it. Where's that at?"

"... People from here call it hell." Negau whispered.

Evania stared at him for a bit, trying to process that.

"...What's it like?" she finally asked. She didn't know whether to believe him or not.

"... Hot. Smelly. Noisy." Negau replied softly.

"Doesn't sound like a place you want to go back to," remarked Evania.

Negau shook his head slowly. "I never want to go back..." He let his sentence hang, unable to bring himself to admit that he always returns, that he has to return.

Evania frowned. Whoever this boy was, he had been through something terrible.

"Do you need a place to stay?" she asked.

Negau shook his head. "I'll just stay here. Its easiest."
