Some Things Just Can't Be Understood

"Are you alright?" Pheobie asked in concern. "Do you need help?"

"Think I got it," replied Maple, as he finished dressing the wound. "Let's just have our Pokemon out. It'll be easier that way."

"Okay" Pheobie chirped with a smile. She let the pichu out of its pokeball first and it immediately took its place on top of her head.

Maple let Groovy out of its Pokeball. It greeted him with a cheerful "Vyle!"

"Okay, you take care of any Rattata or Pidgey, okay?" Maple told the plant lizard, before moving forward again.

Pheobie followed him cheerfully, still watching where she stepped.

The rest of the trip went smoothly. There were a couple more Rattata, but Groovy and the Pichu drove them off easily.

Maple knocked at the door. He waited, waited, and then knocked at the door and waited again.

Pheobie stood next to him, humming nonsense and slowly spinning in circles.

"Is he not home?" Maple wondered. "Usually he at least has an assistant or something to answer the door. Hmm..."

Pheobie stumbled, but straightened herself. "Oh! were you talking to me?" She blinked, startled that he had spoken.

"Oh no, just talking to myself, like any normal insane person should," replied Maple. "Seems Professor Oak's not home at the moment, Maybe he's out doing field studies?"

"What's that?" Pheobie asked with a smile

"Just what it sounds like. Going outside to observe things," answered Maple. "Some things just can't be replicated in a lab or controlled environment. We'll go walking to Viridian City and see if he's somewhere along there."

"Gro gro," said Grovyle, looking around and seeming worried.

"What is it?" asked Maple. "You see the professor?"

Grovyle shook his head. He sat down into a somewhat lotus position while trying to look calm and smart.

"...Now that you mention it, where is Ka?" Maple wondered. He didn't see him anywhere.

Pheobie blinked in surprise. "I thought he was following us" she stated

'That's what I thought too," said Maple, scanning the scene but not finding Ka. "Well, he's psychic. He should be able to find us again easily. Probably sensed an Abra or something he wanted to talk to. Alakazam are fully evolved Abra."

He walked away from the house, Groovy following. "Oh well. We'll go up the routes to Viridian City for now. All the Pokemon here are only Levels 2-4. Nothing we can't handle. And it's a rather pretty route. Very scenic."

Pheobie followed, not wanting to get left behind. "Is it far?" She asked

"No, just over to the north there," said Maple, pointing to some forest up ahead. A pathway was cleared for travelers to go through. "Viridian City is just out of sight. We'll come back here later if Ka still hasn't shown up."
