Rain Dance

"I'm sorry." Kimi mumbled again. She looked at her feet, upset that Voltaire was upset, maybe with her, she only could tell he was upset. "I'll come to the next fight so you won't worry." She wrung her hands nervously.

Voltaire glanced back at Kimi, and then looked away again. He was more mad at himself for overreacting than at her for oversleeping. But knowing his big mouth he would just say something that would make it worse, so he decided to keep quiet.

Ava went over to Kimi and nuzzled her a little.

"It's okay. We're not mad."

"Are you sure?" Kimi asked softly. She looked up through her lashes at Voltaire. "You're not mad Voltaire?" She whispered.

"No, I'm not mad at you," Voltaire answered, sitting down. "I'm mad at myself for looking and acting like a damn idiot earlier."

"See? Volty's only mad at himself," Ava said, before fully registering the meaning of what Voltaire said. "You shouldn't be mad at yourself, Volty. You're a good person."

"No I'm not," he answered with a faint smirk.

"Yes you are."

"No I'm not."

Adair watched it passively, trying not to fall asleep. Between the fight and the search he was feeling worn out. He was faintly amazed that Voltaire still had so much energy. Then again, Voltaire had some amazing endurance and verve. And it wasn't like the Hero himself had the same sort of energy himself as of late. He had been feeling pretty good, but nowadays there was always a...void of sorts.

Kimi stepped forward and kneeled before him. She carefully wrapped her arms around his neck in a hug. "You're a very good person Voltaire." She murmured softly. "If you hadn't of been there, that monster could have killed me" She reminded him.

"T-The hell you talking about?" stammered Voltaire, not expecting the sudden embrace. "All I did was get myself freakin' poisoned. I'm the one who owes you."

Kimi shook her head. "You helped kill it. You made me summon Trevor. If you hadn't of been there It would have gotten me" She murmured.

"...Do you need helping summoning or something?" Voltaire asked, now starting to relax a bit. "Where is he, anyway? Is he usually gone this long while hunting?"

"I wasn't thinking..." Kimi admitted, letting go and sitting up. "Usually we're closer to prey. But I'm not worried. He should be back by tomorrow at the latest."

"Alright," Voltaire answered. Now that he was finally winding down he felt so tired.

Ava got up and started walking out of the cave.

"Getting food?" Voltaire asked.

"Heart market time," she answered plainly as she left.

"Oh," Voltaire answered, displeased. He hated having bits of his heart shipped out to whatever demon had the highest price and most potential power to harvest from, and not having much if any say in the matter. He didn't care if the investments were supposed to make him stronger. It was his heart, at least originally.

Adair was fast asleep, as confirmed by his snoring. His heart was too unstable to be split up much.

"Are you tired?" Kimi asked. "Would you like to lay your head in my lap again?" She asked

Voltaire leaned forward and laid his head over her shoulder instead, not saying anything. He was tired, but he didn't want to go to sleep yet.

Kimi blushed a little. "Are you alright Voltaire?"

"Yeah," he replied sleepily. "Just...I dunno. Tired, I guess. Tired but don't want to sleep."

"oh... Well you're more than welcome to use me as a pillow." Kimi stated softly. "I don't mind"

Voltaire let out a hum in reply, then decided to go ahead and lie down instead. If he was this tired he might as well sleep.

"I'm really sorry I worried you" Kimi stated again.

"It's not you," Voltaire answered. "It's just...well, you know how many times that when someone didn't show up for me it ended up being because they were captured, hurt or possibly dead?...Never mind, you don't need to know that. Being a Hunter is a dangerous job, even if you're in a group. If someone gets separated, they could end up lunch for the demon you're hunting or otherwise screwed over. So...it's a profession thing, I guess."

Kimi leaned down and kissed his cheek lightly. "Thank you. For caring..." She blushed lightly.

"Ah...uh...welcome, I guess," Voltaire babbled, face flushing a bit. He curled up closer and started to drift off.

Kimi stroked his hair gently. "I'm glad I met you." She admitted. "Now I don't feel so lonely anymore."

"That's good," Voltaire answered drowsily, only half-listening at this point.

Kimi giggled slightly. "Go to sleep, Volty" She whispered. "You need your rest."

"Don't call me that," he protested groggily. "Only Ava calls me that, and I hate it. She nicknames everyone and everything. And no I'm not mad at you."

Kimi smiled slightly. "Then what can I call you?" She asked, in a slightly teasing tone "Its such a mouthful to say your name all the time."
