Saving Soul

Adair let out a surprised cry as he got yanked back down. His heart pounded as she snuggled him. Trying not to let his emotions soar out of control, he tried to remember exactly what happened the night before. The redhead glanced at the girl cuddling him. If she willing to be this close after all that, then it couldn't have been rape, right? He felt some slight relief.

Anja yawned lightly. "How can you not be cold?" She asked grumpily. "The ground's cold, the air's cold. Hell, it's foggy outside the cave, its so cold" She pouted up at him slightly. "You should use some of that fire breath to light that pile of wood that never got burned last night. And I say fire breath because I'm not letting you up because you're warm."

Adair let out a small sigh. It wasn't like he wasn't feeling cold himself, but his elevated temperature did help keep him a bit warmer than the average person. He sat up to blow some flame on the kindlewood to help start a fire, then laid back down.

"Um, Anja?" he asked timidly. "What I did, I, uh..."

"Eh." Anja grumbled. "It was the squirrel's fault. Don't bother them and they won't bite you again." She replied vaguely.

"Um, yeah, I guess," he replied awkwardly. How could she be so calm about all this? "It's just...sorry. I mean, I know it was that strange poison, but..."

"Just shut up." Anja replied, without any malice in her voice. "If you start babbling, Then I'll hurt you. Just be content"

Not sure what to say to that, Adair just laid there quietly.

After a few moments of unbearable silence, Anja spoke up again. "You weren't half bad you know."

"Ah, um, thanks?" Adair replied, feeling his face grow hot at the thought. "Uh, you were good too."

Anja snorted in contempt. "You wouldn't know. That was your first time" She replied smartly. "I don't like liars. Remember?"

"Um, yeah," Adair answered, feeling guilty. "It just...seemed appropriate? I mean, it wasn't like..."

"Just stop while you're ahead." Anja smirked slightly. She liked this side of the changeling better than the other more confident side.

(confident side as in when he's trying to be noble, or when he's making out?)

"...Yeah," Adair agreed. He shivered a little. The cold was starting to get to him too. He wished they had a blanket.

Anja smiled softly and laid her head back against his chest to try and rest a little more. The 'drug' induced changeling had been nearly insatiable and had worked her well until he finally exhausted himself just before dawn. She needed all the rest she could get for her fatigued body.

Adair wrapped his arms around her and snuggled back. The fire wasn't doing a good job of keeping him warm, now that he had become aware of the cold. It occurred to him that they might be warmer if they had clothes on, but Anja showed no interest in either getting up herself or letting him get up.

"Once the air in here warms back up, we'll be fine" Anja stated, aware of his small shivers. "But it will take a little while to warm back up."

"Yeah," he answered. He usually slept through this part of the morning, so he didn't notice the cold so much. Now that he was awake he found it harder to ignore, but being closer to Anja seemed to help.

"What's the matter, Hero? Cat got your tongue?" Anja teased lightly.

"I just...don't know what to say at a time like this," Adair admitted. His training had taught him how to respond in just about every situation but this one. Not that he always followed that training too well, but usually he knew what he was at least supposed to say.

Anja shrugged. "You don't have to know what to say all the time."

"No, but it helps," replied Adair. "Otherwise you may end up saying something stupid that offends someone."

Anja sighed. "Heroes are so fake." She grumbled. "Trained to be perfect. always right. I hate it."

Though to some extent he agreed, he still felt offended.

"It's better than always being wrong and going out of your way to offend somebody."

"Its still fake." Anja replied. She rolled over to lay facing the fire, her back to Adair.

Adair sighed. He knew it was fake, but he wanted it to be real.

"...Do you hate me for it, then?"
