Rain Dance

"Were they at the last tournament?" Kimi asked softly. "I don't remember."

"No. Haven't seen them for a couple tournaments," Voltaire replied. "They're more annoying than anything. Webs and poison and crap. Should be able to burn away most of it."

"... Am I sitting with Ava?" Kimi asked, her grip in the hem of his shirt tightening slightly.

"If you want to. Shouldn't be a big deal," replied Voltaire. "Where's that damn room?"

He suddenly noticed Ava rushing into of one of the caverns, a bunch of sticks in her beak.

"...Nevermind."

"I'm a little hungry..." Kimi mumbled, looking up at Voltaire. "From walking around and donating to the tournament. Aren't you?"

Voltaire's stomach growled before he could say otherwise. "Yeah, let's eat. Ava won't be done for awhile anyway."

Kimi followed after him. "Why does Ava do that?" She asked

"Nesting instinct. It's a bird thing," Voltaire replied. "Or a motherly thing. Or both. I dunno."

"Well, she does mother us..." Kimi mumbled. She smiled slightly.

"Yeah, sometimes a little too much," said Voltaire, though he was also smiling slightly. "Guess we're pretty lucky, considering some of the other familiars out there."

Kimi nodded. "Yeah. We're pretty lucky. We wouldn't be here right now if it weren't for Ava..." She looked up at Voltaire again. "I saw some flowers when we cam in, growing by the entrance. Would it be alright if we take some to the dragons later?" she asked "As a get well gesture?"

"We could try, but they might get pissed off," Voltaire replied with a shrug. "They don't like being pitied."

"I don't pity them. I still feel like its kinda my fault." Kimi stated, her smile fading.

"Why? He probably just felt it beating on them for the hell of it," Voltaire replied. "That's what Ava told me anyway. That bastard didn't mention anything about us, just showed up and attacked them."

Kimi ducked her head. "I know. But he was here to look for me." She murmured

"Well, I guess we could get some flowers for Adair since he's in there getting his nose fixed," Voltaire replied. "And we can ask the Dragons if they want any flowers while we're there and check on them and stuff."

"Okay..." Kimi murmured. Her stomach growled softly.

"It'll probably be crowded at the food area, so try not to freak out about it too much," advised Voltaire. He noticed a crowd of changelings and demons up ahead. "...Yep."

"Okay" Kimi mumbled. "I'll stay close to you"

The wait for lunch was long due to the crowds. Voltaire had trouble even finding an empty table to sit at.

Kimi simply followed Voltaire, one hand always hanging onto his shirt hem.

"Try to relax," said Voltaire, giving her a quick smooch on the cheek. "I know that's easier said than done, but try to anyway."

Kimi nodded slowly. "I'll try" She murmured. It wouldn't do much good. She was always high-strung around large groups of people.

Voltaire began working on his meal. He wasn't sure what else to say. He couldn't blame her for being a nervous wreck at that run-in with Talmara. Hell, he was still a nervous wreck after that run-in with Talmara.

Kimi ate slowly and quietly. She had a small nervous twitch in her fingers.
