Chris shifted and groaned lighlty. He stuck his head out from under the blanket and blinked his eyes sleepily. Since he wasn't wearing his glasses or his contacts everything was blury, so it took a minute for him to read the blurry red letters on the clock. 9:15. He frowned and glanced over his shoulder at the still slumbering Beau; usually his 'husband' was up at the crack of dawn. Yawning quietly, he decided to slip out of bed, his bare feet silent on the wood floor, and go downstairs to the kitchen to make coffee.

When he got to the freezing kitchen, he decided to do something unusual himself. He started the coffee, then got out eggs and bacon to make Beau some breakfast in bed. It didn't take long before he was cursing loudly to himself; Today was going to be one of those days.

Chris' cursing roused Beau from his slumber, and he looked blearily at the clock on the nightstand. 9:45.

"Aw, shit," he groaned to himself. "Overslept."

He rolled slowly onto his side, then let his legs fall over the edge of the bed; he slid off of the silk sheets and dropped quietly to his knees beside the bed so he could grope around on the floor for his glasses. Normally he wore contacts, but he'd ripped one of his last usable ones, and he was stuck with his old glasses until his next year's worth came in the mail. With those located, he got up and shambled slowly over to the wardrobe to pick out some clothes for the day; he had on his jeans and was in the middle of pulling his shirt over his head when he heard another round of cursing start from downstairs, accompanied by the distinctive smell of burnt food.

"Goddamnit, Chris. You know you're not allowed to cook."

Sighing heavily, he finished getting dressed (except for shoes and socks; he preferred to go barefoot) and trudged quietly downstairs, intending to sneak up on his lover and ask him just what the hell he thought he was doing in the kitchen and didn't he know better than that. When he got down there and saw how genuinely upset Chris was and saw the attempt the poor boy hand made at making him breakfast, he couldn't bring himself to do it. Instead he crept up silently behind him and wrapped his arms around the smaller man's waist.

"Good morning, baby. Trying to make breakfast?"

Chris stiffened and then relaxed at his lover's touch. He sighed as he finished transferring the burnt-but-still-edible bacon to a napkin covered plate. "I, um, I made the bacon how you like it" He mumbled, his face bright red out of frustration and the embarrassment of being caught doing something Beau had told him expressly not to do without his supervision.

He nudged the dog bowl of burnt eggs to the side of the stove, out of sight and hopefully before Beau saw how badly he'd been doing. "I, um, I would have made eggs too, but we only have two left." He continued, motioning to the open egg carton next to the stove, which indeed only had two eggs left in it. "I can make them for you and just eat some cereal, if you want them. I don't much care for eggs anyway."

Beau chuckled softly into his lover's ear and held him more tightly. Chris never ceased to amaze him. He wanted to be mad that he'd been using the stove without supervision, but it was just too cute; Beau never was able to stay mad at the man. Instead of punishing him for cooking (or trying to), he'd have to reward him for being utterly adorable.

"That's okay, baby. Thank you, though. Why don't you pour us both some cereal, I'll make some toast for bacon sandwiches, and we'll go upstairs and have breakfast in bed? How does that sound?"

Chris tilted his head back to gaze at Beau in surprise. "Y-you're not mad at me for cooking?" he asked softly. His cheeks flushed a dark red and he bit his lip lightly. "I-I'd like that alot" he admitted, ducking his head forward. "But are you sure you don't want me to make it? I-I was gonna make you a nice breakfast and bring it to you in bed, but you woke up, and I burnt everything."

He squirmed lightly. "I'm really sorry for cooking without permission, but I wanted to do something nice for you... Cause, y'know, you're always doing nice stuff for me..."

Beau spun his lover around and kissed him to shut him up. When he finally pulled back, he smiled down at the considerably smaller man and ruffled his hair. "Don't worry about it, baby. It's the thought that counts, yanno? Je t'aime avec tout mon coeur, even if you can't cook. That's what I'm here for. Dis-donc, how would you like to go out later today, after breakfast? We're both off for the day, after all. It'd be a shame to waste one of our few days together."

Chris's face was so red, he looked like he could go at any given second, and it didn't help the matter that he was leaning heavily against Beau's chest while his heart beat something like a congo drum. "I-I, er, um" he stumbled over his words, nothing wanting to come out correctly, so he simply nodded. "W-we n-need to g-go groc-cery sh-shopping today t-too" he stammered. He tried to straighten, shifting his feet to better support himself, but as soon as he moved, his foot slipped and he fell to the floor at Beau's feet with a loud 'Thud' causing their little black dog Sadie to run into the kitchen, barking loudly at the disturbance.

Beau chuckled softly and kneeled down to pick Chris up off the floor, bridal style. "Hush, Sadie. He's fine, just clumsy. Aren't you, baby?" he asked, nuzzling Chris' cheek. He loved how he was still able to make Chris blush and stammer like a schoolgirl, even though they'd been together for so long.

Chris blushed again and nodded, leaning into the nuzzle. "L-let's just eat breakfast" he mumbled "S-so we can spend the day together." He clung loosely to Beau's chest and inhaled deeply, smiling slightly at Beau's unique scent. "M-maybe we can watch some Good Eats later too"

"I like the way you think, sexy boy," Beau laughed.

Beau cleared the breakfast dishes off the bed and snuggled up beside his lover, full and content. He stared at the remote control laying at the foot of the bed and contemplated whether it was worth it to sit up; he decided quickly that not even Good Eats was worth moving right then.

Chris sighed happily and cuddled in return. "That was Good, Beau" he smiled, turning onto his side so he could wrap his arms loosely around his neck. "Maybe I can cook tonight?" he asked more than suggested "I can make the enchiladas that you like, and we can have pudding for dessert... In bed, like we just did with breakfast." He blushed slightly as he chose his next words. "And maybe each other too..." He hid his face in Beau's chest with a nervous giggle.

Beau chuckled lightly and stroked Chris' hair, holding the smaller man against his chest gently. "That sounds like a nice plan, Chrissy," he purred. "So, when should we head for the grocery, mon cher?"

Chris wiggled a moment before peeking up at Beau. "How about I get dressed and we go now? Then we don't have to be out in the cold for so long, and we won't have to fight the crowds later." He gave Beau a weak smile. "Does that sound good?" He slipped out of bed without waiting for an answer and pulled a pair of jeans from the closet.

Shopping hadn't helped Chris's feeling of worthlessness. If anything, seeing all the mothers shopping with their babies (there had been seven, he kept count) had made it worse. Halfway home, at a stop sign, Chris let out a noise of frustration and let his head fall forward to smack against the wheel. "I hate my life!" he whined.

Beau laughed. "Oh yeah? Why's that? Seems to me that you've got a pretty good life, Chris; I mean, you've got a nice house, a steady job... a loving husband. Doesn't sound so bad to me."

"I know, and I love every bit of it- I love you especially!" Chris exclaimed, looking up at him. "But... Its just..." He made another noise of frustration. "My Biological clock is screaming at me." he finally mumbled, he kept his eyes on the road until he was forced to stop at a red light.

Beau nodded and was silent for a bit, staring at the red traffic signal in front of them; as it changed to green, a lightbulb flashed on in his head. "I know you want babies, Chris. I already said we could adopt."

"I know" Chris mumbled, waiting for the car ahead of them to go. "And I know we will eventually. But that doesn't make me feel better now, especially when we go out in public." He sighed as he finally got to press down on the gas pedal. "I just can't help but feel like part of me is just missing sometimes."

"...so why don't we go now? Where's the nearest adoption agency?" he asked, looking over at Chris seriously. "If you feel that strongly about it, let's just do it. Why wait?"

Chris's head jerked around to look up at Beau, blushing furiously. "R-Really?" he squeaked "Do you mean it?" The car behind them honked, drawing Chris's attention back to the road and making him realize that he was drifting into the other lane. He straightened out, back in his own lane before speaking again. "The... Um, the nearest adoption agency is in Colraine I think..." He bit his lip.

"Well," Beau said, grinning, "guess we're going to Colerain, huh? Get to driving, pretty boy."

Chris blushed even darker and swallowed hard. Not trusting himself to speak, he simply nodded and adjusted their route until they were headed in the correct direction.

It was almost a full ten minutes before Chris spoke again. "B-Beau?" he stammered. "W-What made you decide you wanted to do this today?" He glanced over at his (wonderful, amazing, positively godlike) husband, once he felt safe that he wasn't going to drift into oncoming traffic.

Beau looked thoughtful for a moment, then shrugged nonchalantly. "Because it's what you want. And it's not like I don't want kids, you know? So, why not do it now, since we have the opportunity?"

Chris blushed again and looked back to the road. "I'll need to take a week of my vacation time then," he smiled, "because we'll need it to get our new baby all settled in. We'll have to take them shopping, and get furniture for their room- I should have enough in my savings to cover it, so you won't have to even touch your bakery fund." Now that the initial shock of Beau's impulsiveness (which never happened) had worn off, Chris was gushing over this almost as bad as a teenage girl who was just elected prom queen would gush about prom.
