"Because you're men" Kimi stated.

Voltaire chuckled. "Probably."

The door opened and Adair came in, looking sullen.

Kimi hurriedly filled a bowl of stew for him and set it at the table.

"...Thanks," Adair mumbled, sitting down and starting to eat.

Voltaire deliberately ignored him.

Kimi frowned but didn't say anything. Whatever was going on between the boys wasn't any of her business.

Adair turned to Voltaire as if to say something, but Voltaire's death leer swiftly discouraged it.

"Sorry," Adair mumbled to his soup instead.

"Yeah, yeah, I know you're sorry for everything as usual," Voltaire replied. "Take a nap, feel better, yadda yadda yadda."

Kimi bit her lip softly. "Is everything alright?" She finally asked

"...Plan's kinda got shot to hell," Voltaire muttered as he stood up, his soup half-finished. "...Whatever, going to go lie down for a bit. Headache."

"...What plan?" Kimi asked, her frown deepening. "I-I'm not sure I understand what's going on"

"...Later," Voltaire mumbled, retreating into his room. "Or ask Adair. Whatever."

Kimi continued to bite her lip as she watched the door even after it had shut.

"Uh..." Adair began, looking to the side. "The plan was to heal my heart and stay human, but...that's not going to happen. We're both evolving. It's probably what Ava planned on from the start."

"Oh" Kimi whispered. She looked to the door a few minutes longer before turning to the sink to wash dishes stacked there.

Adair also excused himself silently from the table, having not eaten much. He went to lay down on the couch.

Kimi was afraid to go into the room with Voltaire. She had never seen him so angry before, and she didn't want to upset him anymore.

Knowing that all the phoenix changelings were unnerved, Damon and Dawn went into town.

Voltaire was still in bed, the lights off. He didn't feel good mentally or physically and didn't want to go face Adair again yet.

Kimi tried to keep busy cleaning, but all too soon she ran out of things to do. Unsure of her ability to face Voltaire, she wandered outside to the barn, to where Ava was. "Ava?" She asked softly "Can I stay in here with you for a little while?"

"Sure!" Ava chirped, raising her head upon seeing Kimi.

Kimi ventured father in and sat down so she could lean against Ava. "Voltaire isn't very happy, I don't think I've ever seen him this mad at Adair before" She mumbled.

"Volty and Fiery both want to protect each other, so when one tries to protect the other more the other gets mad," said Ava.

"Oh" Kimi murmured. She yawned softly. "Is it okay is I take a nap? Just for a little bit?" She bit her lip lightly "I didn't sleep well last night because I was worried about Voltaire, and kept sitting up with him to make sure he was really alright."

"I don't mind," Ava replied. "Volty won't feel well for a while, but he'll be okay."

Kimi smiled and rest fully back against Ava. "Thank you Ava" she let her eyes drift shut.

"You're welcome," Ava replied. "Volty isn't being too mean, is he? His plan didn't work, and he's mad about that."

"He's... Brooding." Kimi mumbled. "A quiet anger I think"
