Rain Dance

"Adair" Kimi stated worriedly. "I think he's sick"

"Taire? Can you hear me? Are you alright?"

"C-Cold," he whispered, his shuddering intensifying. "Fuh-Freezing..."

"Volty?" Ava called, with no response from Voltaire. "His heart's beating real fast. I'm going down so he can get more air.

"He was fine earlier" Kimi stated, clearly worried. "What could be wrong with him?"

"He was fine until those wings appeared again," said Adair, shaking Voltaire's quivering shoulder lightly. It felt hot, even for a fire-element changeling. All he got in response was a weak moan and a shivering breath. "Do you think you can heal him?"

Kimi looked unsure of herself. "Maybe. But I can't do it in the air" she stated "I still don't feel comfortable in the air."

"Working on that," said Ava, as she headed for the nearest cliff. Voltaire had sunk into a feverish unconsciousness, muttering intelligibly.

Kimi stroked his hair as she worried. He was going to be alright, He had to be alright.

Ava landed hurriedly on the cliff. "Can you heal him now?"

Adair rubbed at his head. He was starting to feel woozy himself.

(since Voltaire's heart is channeling so much demon energy, and Adair's heart depends somewhat on his, Adair's in danger of overload too)

"I'll try" Kimi replied. She lifted Voltaire's head up and placed her lips over his to heal. After she had sucked the energy out, she felt woozy, and had to slide off Ava's back, tears in her eyes. "Ava. I can't heal him" She whispered. "I-I took as much as I could, but I could feel the energy already starting to build back up." She looked up at the golden bird. "What can I do?"

"Ki...mi..." Voltaire breathed, eyelids flickering but not opening. "An...gel..."

Shit, we'll both become demons at this rate, Adair thought, trying to ignore his own mounting symptoms. No...got to be strong for 'Taire...fight, got to...fight this... He was seized with chills as the pressure in his head and back built up. Shit...Shit...

Ava warbled with worry over both of them, then her expression became strangely calm.

"Give me your heart," the phoenix spoke coolly. "It should be able to support Voltaire's weakened one, which will also support Adair's heart. The excess demonic energy should be more evenly distributed as well."

"How?" Kimi asked, still looking up at Ava. "I-I want to, but I don't know how"

Both phoenix changelings had begun to sing weakly.

"Just believe in me," said Ava. "The rest should happen automatically."

"Alright" Kimi sighed, closing her eyes. "I believe in you Ava. Please save him"

(nice how she doesn't say anything about Adair :P. Then again, she probably hasn't noticed him much since Voltaire is so sick. Still, she doesn't seem to like him much.)

A white light shone and rose from Kimi's chest: her heart. It flew over to Ava and was swiftly absorbed in the phoenix's own chest. She began to glow, a change in form soon coming.

Both Adair and Voltaire stopped their involuntary singing, now slipping into an exhausted but restful slumber.

"They still need time to recover," said Ava. "But with some rest they should be alright."

Kimi didn't hear Ava. She had already slumped to the ground, deep in a fitful unconsciousness.

Kimi was freezing. She barely had the strength to open her eyes. She could hear voices. Someone had wrapped her in a blanket and was holding her. Everything was shaking, no, she was shaking. She opened her weary eyes with a groan, it was so hard to keep them open.

Voltaire had been lightly dozing when he heard her groan.

"Kimi?" asked Voltaire. He could feel her shivering through the cocoon of cougar and deer skins. "How are you feeling?"

Adair was nearby, also worried. Ava was sleeping, her form sleeker and with white streaks among the red and gold.

Kimi groaned again and closed her eyes. "cold" She whispered hoarsely "so c-cold" she was too weak to even try curling up.

Voltaire hugged her tighter, planting kisses on her burning forehead. "Easy, Angel. Take it easy."

Kimi groaned again before sinking back into unconsciousness.

(Go ahead and take them to the tournament. Kimi'll be drifting in and out the entire time before hand.)

It was a long trip to the tournament for more than one reason. Voltaire, nearly sick with worry himself, refused to be away from Kimi for any long period of time, leaving Ava to do the hunting. By the time they arrived at the tournament, fighting was the last thing he was in the mood for.

It seemed like Kimi was starting to get better. She wasn't trembling as much, but her temperature still hadn't gone down and she still didn't wake for more than a few minutes at a time.

"We'll have to leave her at the medical center for now," advised Adair, looking over to the sleeping Kimi in Voltaire's arms. "It should help her get better faster too."

Voltaire just nodded, nuzzling Kimi's hair. He still didn't and never would like doctors, but they couldn't leave her alone in their cavern room while she was like this. Besides, Voltaire had to grudgingly admit that while the demon doctors and their treatments were unpleasant, they were effective.

Almost as if she knew they were talking about her, Kimi woke slightly. "Taire?" She murmured, her eyes fluttering lightly.

"Hey angel," Voltaire answered, kissing the top of her head lightly. "We're going to have to go to our match soon, so you'll need to stay with the doctors'. We'll be back as soon as we can."

Kimi groaned. "O-Okay" she murmured. She smiled weakly. "Do your best..."
