Saving Soul

Adair wasn't sure if he should be concerned or relieved that Anja didn't blow up or at least question Ava's little nickname. For now he would take it as a good sign.

"Well we should be all ready then," announced Adair, picking Anja up and carrying her onto Ava.

"I've been ready," Voltaire said dryly, also climbing aboard.

"Do try to be somewhat polite," Adair warned.

"...Whatever."

Ava took off, flying toward the mountains.

Anja did her best to look bored, but in truth she hated flying and only did it when necessary.

The flight was eerily silent, with neither Anja or Voltaire saying a word. Still, he preferred that to the endless bickering that had occurred in the trip before. Still it made him uneasy, because neither person were silent types.

"So, how many days until the next tournament?" the redhead asked the blonde.

"Three," he replied simply, staring out at the scenery. There was no elaboration, and the awkward silence fell again.

"Oh! Maybe the doctors can help Anjy!" Ava piped up. "I know they treat broken bones a lot."

"I am not letting a demon doctor anywhere near me." Anja stated, deathly serious. "And If you even try otherwise, I'll kill you. I don't know how yet, but I will."

"Scary," Voltaire replied dryly. "But I don't blame you. Demon doctors are evil."

"You think all doctors are evil," Adair stated flatly.

"They're the worst," Voltaire answered.

"Agreed. They think they can cure everything with a nasty tasting concoction or a needle to your arm." Anja agreed with Voltaire readily

Voltaire actually shuddered at the mention of needles. He suddenly looked queasy.

"I don't care for it either," Adair admitted, noticing Voltaire's abrupt shift in mood. "But you aren't going to run from a few needles, are you 'Taire?"

Voltaire just gave Adair a sickened look in return.

"...Anyway, no one's forcing you Anja," Adair went on. "It's just an possible option, that's all."

"I would rather die a horribly painful death." Anja stated.

"Fine then," Adair replied, though he was anything but fine about the alternative.

"If it wasn't for his heart depending on mine, I would second that opinion," Voltaire answered with a lazy wave of the hand, not looking at either of them.

"So are demon doctors any worse than human ones?" Anja asked Voltaire.

"The stuff they make you take is worse and they don't even pretend to feel sorry for you," replied Voltaire. "Plus you have to give blood and...stuff."

"...Yeah. I'd much rather die a horribly painful death than go to a demon doctor." Anja stated

Adair sighed. He couldn't blame her. He knew the demon doctors could fix and regrow bones within a day, but there was also Voltaire's testimony of how tiring and painful that was.

"The life of a changeling," Voltaire commented lazily, sticking out his tongue at Anja. "You want it?"

"Why would I want to live under a demon?" Anja asked. "I don't even know why my master told me to find the tournament."

"Then you should consider that before blindly following orders," Voltaire replied. "If he didn't say then chances are his reasons aren't pure. And I don't want to hear about anything the Gales might have to say to that."

Adair glowered at him, as he was just about to speak up, though more for Anja than for himself.

"The old man's a fruit bat." Anja stated. "I don't care what his reasons were, I'll have a summon eat him for this."

Voltaire laughed.

"You say that your master's a wizard," Adair began. "What kind of magic does he do?"

"All kinds. Or he did. Until the curse." Anja shrugged. "Now that I think about it, the man was a lecher. Deserved what he got."

"So he doesn't even have any power to give? Might as well feed him to one of your pets," Voltaire remarked.

"I've wanted to." Anja sighed. "But he's crafty."

"You say he's a pervert, right? Just go give him some dirty pictures and while he's all googly-eyed BAM!" Voltaire replied, making a gun gesture with his hand.

"You plot murder plots with surprising ease," Adair remarked dryly.

"Being a Hunter helps."

"If only that would work." Anja grumbled.

"Why wouldn't it work?" asked Voltaire. "Maybe you could try drugging his food instead?"

"What sorcerer cursed him?" asked Adair.

"Will be reaching mountain soon," Ava announced.

"Sorceress. Don't know her name. Evidentially, he touched something he shouldn't." Anja chuckled.

Voltaire snickered. "Nice."

"Doesn't sound like he's done much good," Adair remarked.
