Saving Soul

"Especially Nosey Heroes that try and make friends with you to get what they want." Anja replied. "If I knew where they were going, trust me, I'd tell you." She turned her face back towards the bakery, her hair shifting from her neck to reveal a half healed hickey. She didn't know it was there, she was just wondering how long until she was allowed to go and get her lunch.

Daniel's expression grew more serious. "Even if you didn't know where they were going, any information you could provide could help us find them. They're dangerous. It's highly likely that they will become full demons if we don't end this soon." He closed his eyes. "I'd rather not let it get to that."

"All I know is that the pink squirrels about four miles back, they're dangerous and shouldn't be approached." Anja replied. "I don't know where they're going, they blindfolded me when they left me outside town, But I do know that the hunter fellow, the royal ass that wanted to just drop me off a cliff, he fell off the demon and broke his leg." She sighed loudly "Can I get my lunch now?"

"Ah, Voltaire," Daniel answered with slight amusement. "That sounds just like him." He turned around. "Anyway, that should be good. If you remember anything else, let us know."

The gestured for the others to follow him, and they did.

(I can't think of why they would arrest her at this point, unless they had concrete proof that she wasn't just a victim)

(well she is half demon too. And she's gotten into trouble before. Maybe they think they can use her to lure them?)

"Useless idiots." Anja muttered as she left to get her lunch.

"What do you think?" asked one of the lower Gales. Their blood lacked the direct link to Bastion that Daniel had.

"She's hiding something," replied Daniel, expression cold. "It's just a matter finding out what."

Anja walked out of the bakery a short while later with her lunch in a bag. She headed straight back to the inn she was staying at.

"That girl has been known to cause trouble, according to our reports," said another of the lower Gales. "Why not arrest her on a lower charge and interrogate from there?"

"Because it would be unsightly," answered Daniel. "Many of the people here have shady pasts, even though it doesn't look like it. Though the girl is our priority to capture, there are several others we also want to nab while we're here. If we randomly go around arresting people it will spook the other fugitives into either fighting or fleeing, and either way we'll look bad and lose targets. It's better to do this more subtly."

"And how do you plan to do that?" asked the lower Gale.

"The baker is an old friend of mine," explained Daniel. "He'll be adding a little seasoning to her drink."

"Using underhanded tactics?" snorted one of the others. "That's not very heroic."

"I prefer to think of it as fighting fire with fire."

Menuvering carefully, Anja made her way to the center of town, where there was a small park. She sat under a tree and took her lunch from the bag. There was a sandwich (the baker recieved meats and cheese from the butcher) and a jar of cider. Smiling softly, Anja opened the jar and drank a fourth of it right away. Walking on the crutch made her thirsty.

Daniel and the other Gales kept an eye on her from a distance, spreading out and doing other activities as if distracted. Daniel smiled when he saw her drink. The serum would soon put her to sleep, and by the time she woke she would be ready to talk.

Anja ate her sandwich, occasionally drinking from the jar. She finished off the last of her cider when her sandwich was done and leaned back against the tree to watch the sky. It wasn't long before she was deeply asleep.

Daniel came over when he was sure she was asleep. "Hey Anja...Anja?" He bent down next to her. "Hey Anja, you okay?" and laid his head on her forehead as if checking for a temperature and frowned. "...We're getting you to a doctor."

He picked her up carefully and carried her off to the doctor's house. The doctor was a friend of his too.

Anja didn't respond. She was still a little feverish from having not set her ankle for so long, and from her ankle not being healed yet.

Well, what did you know? She had an actual temperature, though not a severe one. All the better if a suspicious villager questioned him.

(fast-forward to Anja waking up whenever ready. They'll be in the basement of the doctor's house.)

Anja groaned and stirred. "My head" She mumbled.

"Hello," greeted Daniel, sitting in a chair not far away. The other Gales stood nearby. "How are you feeling?"

"Like shit." Anja replied "My head hurts, My ankle's broken, and I'm in a confined place with a bunch of heroes."

"We are at a doctor's," Daniel replied coolly. "We can get you some treatment after we're done. But first, what is your involvement with Adair Gale?"

"Adair... He broke my ankle on accident and took me with them to take care of me. We got separated and he was bitten by a pink squirrel and I was forced to allow him to use me to alleviate the poison." Anja replied. She frowned. "Why did I just answer that."

"Truth always prevails," Daniel said with some amusement. "Or truth serum anyway. Now where were they going?"

"Changeling tournament. In a mountain range somewhere." Anja replied. She forced herself into a sitting position. "That's low. I thought Heroes were supposed to have morals."

"If you had told the truth in the first place we wouldn't have to do this," Daniel replied lazily. "Now why did you lie to us?"

"Because I hate heroes with the burning passion of a thousand white hot suns." Anja snapped. "I would have told you that without the truth serum."

"but isn't Adair a Hero too, who hurt you and used you?" asked Daniel. "Wouldn't you want him punished just because he's a Hero? And you don't seem terribly fond of Voltaire either, though that is understandable."

"He isn't a hero. And I'd much rather just not have anything else to do with him. He's too nice to me." Anja replied. "Voltaire can jump off a cliff."
