Saving Soul

"You've got a point," said Adair. "It's just that they seem to be really bad here."

"Wherever they manage to infiltrate they manage to infest really bad," said Voltaire. "About the only thing that stops them is extreme temperatures and water."

"And spitting cobras and fire and giant spiders." Anja stated.

"Yeah, they can't do much against dragons," remarked Voltaire. "Proper dragons anyway."

"We're getting near the town," Ava announced.

Anja sighed. "If you want, you can leave me by the outskirts. I'll find a way into town myself"

"Are you sure?" asked Adair. "I could take you-"

"You're wanted, remember?" Voltaire reminded. "I think she'd be safer without us around her."

Adair frowned. He still didn't like it.

"I'll be fine" Anja assured him. "Don't worry about it"

"...Alright," Adair finally conceded. "So where exactly do you want to be dropped off at?"

"Not to far from the main roan. That way I can hitch a ride" Anja replied

"Okay," Ava replied, as they headed toward the town. It didn't take long to find the main road, which was wide and unpaved. "Here good?"

"Here's good Ava. Just set me off to the side of the road" Anja smiled

Carefully and reluctantly Adair picked her up and set her by the side of the road.

"You sure about this?" he asked. It was close to town so the area shouldn't have been dangerous, but he couldn't help but worry.

"I'll be fine" Anja assured him. "Now go win."

They said their goodbyes and left here there, though they stayed at a distance to make sure she got picked up by a safe group. When a local merchant group stopped by to help they left for the tournament.

(It will probably take a couple days before the Gales meet with her. You can fast-forward to then if you like)

Anja hobbled out of the inn she was staying at on a wooden crutch she had bought. She had a little bit of money saved up and hidden on her person that she had been using to pay for her stay. Soon she would have to find another job for her skills.

She headed toward the bakery to get her meal for the day.

The town was usually an open and busy place, but that day it was unusually quiet. People normally loud and chatty whispered to one another, some paying glances in Anja's direction.

Anja ignored them like she usually did. She was too busy thinking about which summon was low enough for her to summon but large and tame enough for her to ride. She didn't want to have to buy a horse.

Three Heroes in cerulean armor walked toward Anja. Their eyes were all calm and a devoid of emotion.

Anja moved so they could get around her, figuring that she was in their way. She hated heroes so god damn much, she never thought they would want anything to do with her.

They surrounded her in a triangular formation instead.

"Anja Wavella," announced the one with short brown hair. "We hereby arrest you for assisting the changeling and traitor Adair Gale. You are to come with us."

Anja glared at them. "Help shit. The dumbass broke my ankle then felt bad and made me come with 'em. Like Hell I'm coming with you for that." She stated.

All three pointed their swords at her, their expressions still dead calm.

"We suggest you don't resist."

Anja glared at them. "I'm a cripple. Don't you morons have a rule about protecting women and cripples?"

"Hey, that's enough. She could very well be a victim as she says," said a fourth Hero with light brown hair, walking over to the scene. He had light blue as well as dark blue interlaced in his armor. "Remember who we're dealing with, and his companion."

The other Heroes serenely stepped aside to let him through.

"So you're Anja Wavella," he remarked. "I'm Daniel Gale. I know what a royal pain by younger brother can be, literally."

Anja glowered at him. "I don't like heroes." She stated coldly.

"Especially fake Heroes, right?" replied Daniel. "Like the one that got your ankle broken?"
