Rain Dance

"Ow," Voltaire answered, her hug aggravating some bruises and other sore spots dealt during the fight. "...But yeah, thanks anyway."

"What am I, chopped liver?" Adair growled.

"Aw, we love you too Fiery," cooed Ava, preening his hair affectionately. Adair found it awkward but made no protest.

Kimi nuzzled his chest lightly, trying to be gentle. "You're so strong~"

"I guess," Voltaire answered lazily. If he was strong then he wouldn't be here in the tournaments. He would be out exterminating the Gales at the source and putting this whole mess to an end. He rubbed the back of her neck some.

"C'mon, let's get going," called Adair, already on top of Ava. "I think Barrett gave me a concussion or two."

"Whine, whine. I think Curtis gave me a bruised rib or five."

Kimi let go of Voltaire and climbed back on Ava's back obediently. "C'mon Taire" she chirped.

Voltaire followed. He winced some as he climbed up on Ava. He hoped that his ribs were just bruised and not cracked or broken. That had happened before in fights with Curtis and Barrett. He knew there were probably lacerations from the whip strikes, though they would be mostly hidden under his shirt.

Upon securing everyone Ava made her way over to the medical center.

"Don't worry" Kimi smiled to Voltaire. "I'll stay with you while the doctor treats you." She stated. "I know you don't like doctors"

Voltaire nodded. "Thanks."

The stay would be longer than usual. Adair did have a concussion on top of everything else and Voltaire did have several bruised ribs. Healing spells and solutions had been concentrated on the affected areas, which would help them heal in hours instead of days, but the hastened natural processes also made the healing sting a little.

Because of where his injuries were Voltaire was forced to stay still on his back. He hated being forced to stay still, especially if part of him ached while healing. Ava was in the other room visiting Adair.

Kimi sat by Voltaire's head, gently stroking his hair. "Are you alright?" She would ask on occasion.

"...Yeah," Voltaire answered after wincing a bit. "It's just...annoying, that's all. Don't let yourself get busted bones. You want to avoid this."

"All right" Kimi murmured soothingly. "Why don't you take a nap?" She suggested. "That way time passes faster."

"I would if the aches didn't keep me up," Voltaire grumbled, wincing again. "That's the worst thing about this. It makes you tired but you can't sleep."

"Don't think about the pain. Then you can sleep" Kimi offered.

"I'll try," he grumbled. He really did feel tired. "Remind me to teach you firebreathing or something later."

Kimi nodded. "Alright. Would you like me to sing you to sleep?" She asked softly, planting light kisses on his forehead and temple.

"...Yeah, guess it's worth a shot," Voltaire replied, the feathery kisses relaxing him.

Kimi smiled and began to sing to him softly. A human lullaby that she had learned from her mother.

"...That's pretty," said Voltaire, already feeling more drowsy. "Don't know the song though."

"My mother used to sing it to us." Kimi replied. "Do you want me to keep singing?"

Voltaire nodded. "Yeah, go ahead."

Kimi started singing again. She gently stroked Voltaire's hair out of his face as she sang.

Between the singing and the petting Voltaire soon began to drift off. It wasn't long until he was completely asleep.

Kimi continued to sit with him faithfully until he woke. She smiled down at him. "Feeling better?" She asked

"...Yeah, actually," Voltaire replied, sitting up and feeling no pain. His other wounds had healed as well. "Seeing your pretty face helps," he added, pecking her on the cheek.

Kimi blushed and looked away with a small smile. "I'm not that pretty" She giggled lightly.

"Sure you are," Voltaire replied, getting up and stretching. "I wonder if Adair's up yet."

He walked over to Adair's room.

"...Too noisy," he heard the redhead complain tiredly.

"I guess not," said Voltaire. Now that he thought about it, getting a concussion healed that way was probably way worse than getting ribs healed. It would be a million little headache on top of one big headache. For once Voltaire felt lucky.
