Saving Soul

Adair blinked. "You're used to it?"

"Giving blood." Anja clarified. "I used to have to do it with my master for his 'experiments'"

Adair frowned. "What kind of experiments?"

"I would rather not talk about it except to say that its my reason for my high tolerance to pain." Anja stated

Adair nodded, though he nuzzled Anja's hair again. There were things that he didn't like sharing with others as well.

"I'm sure you and Voltaire have your own secrets" She stated

"Yeah," Adair replied. "It's okay, I won't ask."

"Good" Anja chuckled. "Now kiss me, and we'll go back to Ava and Volty"

"Alright," he said, giving her a good kiss on the mouth before starting to head back.

Anja walked with him, slipping her hand into his.

Ava was finishing her nest inside the cave while Voltaire was working on a new contraption.

"Hey," they both greeted.

"Cha doing, Volty?" Anja asked obnoxiously.

""Working on a new machine," Voltaire replied without looking up. "If it mysteriously melts or otherwise disappears then so does his armor and your new knife."

"I bought more than one knife." Anja stated. "And they never leave my person."

"Then I'll find something else," Voltaire replied boredly. He put the contraption aside to cool from its welding.

"Good luck." Anja smirked.

Adair meanwhile sat down by his bag of armor, making sure all the pieces were still there.

"Why do you even bother with it?" asked Voltaire. "You can't wear it because it makes you too hot nowadays, and I doubt it brings back many good memories."

Adair just scowled at him.

"Why Do I summon? I had to go through all kinds of horrible thing and experiments to get the ability and it physically pains me to do it, so why do I?" Anja stated. "Its a sense of familiarity."

"And up 'til now your main way of defending yourself," Voltaire added.

Adair sighed as he put all the pieces back in the bag. He supposed Anja's explanation was closest. Some part of him didn't want to let go of the past, both the good and the bad of it, so that was why he kept the armor.

"Against demons, yes. You've experienced what I can do to a human" Anja replied

Voltaire just shrugged. "Fair enough. Plenty of demons around though. And Heroes."

"Mmhmm." Anja hummed

"Whatever. I won't mess with your stuff if you don't mess with mine," said Voltaire, putting away his machine into a new sack. He tucked it under Ava's wing.

"I have no reason to." Anja stated

"Good," Voltaire replied. "As long as it stays that way."

"Any lunch left?" asked Adair.

"Just dried stuff," Voltaire replied.
