Rain Dance

Kimi frowned and tried breathing some white flame over him.

The shivering lessened, more because of the extra heat any any healing effect. "A-Are you alright, K-Kimi?"

"Yeah." Kimi replied. "I feel alright"

"That's good," Voltaire replied. Now he was starting to feel very warm. "...Guess I'm still adjusting, or something."

"Damon said it would be a few days before you feel normal again" Kimi murmured.

"Yeah..." Voltaire muttered. He was starting to get that strange double-place feeling again. "Still, this sucks...I mean, it was worth it, but this part sucks..."

"Like when I became a phoenix?" Kimi murmured

"...I guess," Voltaire answered, before pausing. "...Phoenix..."

Almost on cue he felt sharp pains in his back. "Ah shit..."

Kimi immediately sat up. "What's wrong?"

"Back..." Voltaire answered. This was not what he needed right now.

"Should I go get Damon?" Kimi asked in concern

Voltaire didn't have any time to respond. He yelled out as the wings erupted from his back, lifting away most the covers. He heard himself singly lowly, but had no control over it. He hardly had any control, and that left him brimming with dread. This thing, because this was not him, felt threatened. This thing felt angry.

Oh shit, he thought. Oh shit, oh shit...

Fire-colored lines lit up beneath his skin and in his wings. Then many of those lines rose out of him like string and began whipping about wildly, scorching whatever they struck.

No, stop! he wanted to scream, but his vocal chords weren't his own. It was all he could do to clutch Kimi tightly toward him, and hopefully away from the thrashing strings. Don't hurt her, don't hurt her, don't-

Kimi cried out loudly in surprise, which brought Damon and dawn rushing to the room.

"Kimi!" Damon cried out when he saw what was going on, and he tried to rush forward, but Dawn held him back.

"Don't!" He stated firmly

The ruckus also drew Adair to the scene, where he narrowly stumbled back from the lashes of the tendrils.

"What the hell?" Adair hissed, as he got a better look at the scene. "Taire! Taire, snap out of it!"

I'm trying I'm trying, thought Voltaire. Stopitstopitstopstopit-

After the longest couple of minutes in Voltaire's life the burning strings retreated back into him. The wings collapsed over him before they burst into flame. He was utterly drained.

"Oh hell...Oh hell..." Voltaire panted. "Kimi...Kimi, are you..."

Kimi whimpered softly from where she was pressed and curled against him. She was alright, only startled.

"The fuck was that?!" Damon demanded

"...That's what the fuck I want to know too..." Voltaire mumbled tiredly. He still clung to Kimi tightly.

"A-are you alright?" Kimi whispered.

Was he alright? How could be be alright when some force had taken him over and fiery strings had shot out every without discrimination? No, he wasn't alright. Something was wrong and he didn't even know what the hell it was or how to fight it. He buried his face in her shoulder.

"Taire?" Kimi asked, even more concerned at his silence.

"...I'm okay," he murmured into her shoulder. For now. "...Tired, that's all."

"Are you s-sure?" Kimi asked

"...You're okay," Voltaire murmured, trying to fight off sleep. "...That's what counts." His hold around her grew lax as he continued to lose that battle against slumber.

Dawn carefully pulled Damon from the room.

"That isn't all that matters" Kimi murmured defiantly.

"It counts more," Voltaire mumbled just as stubbornly. "I could've hurt you. I could've..."

"But I'm okay, And I wouldn't be if you weren't okay" Kimi mumbled
