Rain Dance

"It's c-cold," Voltaire grumbled, cuddling closer to Kimi. "F-Feels cold, anyway. D-Dammit."

Kimi gently blew flames over him.

The chills began to fade. "L-Love you Angel."

Kimi nodded, still blowing flames. She didn't like when he started to shiver.

Voltaire laid his head on Kimi's shoulder, giving Kimi a couple more kisses. "...Won't let anyone hurt you...I'm here, I won't..."

So he rambled drowsily for a couple minutes, eventually falling asleep.

Kimi stayed close to him in concern when he drifted off. "... Ava? You wouldn't try and force me to change would you?" She asked softly.

"You wouldn't evolve," Ava replied. "But Volty...and probably Fiery too...their bodies depend so much on the demonic energy now, they might die without it. That's why I want to evolve them." She paused. "And it's kind of lonely, being a phoenix. Having other phoenixes around would be nice later."

"Because I'm already a demon...right?" Kimi asked

"Not the kind that can become a phoenix," said Ava. She glanced at the sleeping Voltaire. "Volty finds it scary now, but he should be okay once he gets used to it."

"You shouldn't have sprung it on him like that." Kimi mumbled. "I think he would have reacted better if you had told him without surprising him."

Ava sighed. "I know, I'm sorry. But it's....I don't know how to say it...I didn't know what I was doing until later. And to tell Volty anytime then would've made him mad."

She preened Voltaire's hair some. He let out a grunt in protest, burying his face in the crook of Kimi's neck.

Kimi shuddered lightly. "Well, I think that he might get over it." She mumbled. "We just have to give him some time."

"Yes, Volty needs to rest," Ava agreed. "He'll feel better physically and mentally then. He pushes himself too hard and worries too much."

Kimi nodded in agreement. "He does... I think he feels to need to protect us..."

"He does, he does," Ava agreed. "But he should look after himself more too."

Voltaire began singing softly in his sleep.

Kimi bit her lip. "Yeah, he does. But that's why we're here right? To protect him too?"

Ava nodded. "Yes. He fusses about it, but he's glad we care."

The phoenix paused and lifted her wing up slightly, eyeing Voltaire. A couple moments later the Hunter's own wings emerged from his back. They flexed a couple times before wrapping peacefully around Kimi.

"Oh good, they're syncing better," remarked Ava.

Voltaire remained asleep and singing.

Kimi blushed lightly but rested her head on his shoulder. "It doesn't hurt him does it?"

"It takes, but it also takes care of its host," Ava replied. "It is not stupid. Only stupid things wreck what they live in. But it will also change him, and that will be rough. Once that is done they will both be better off."

"Oh..." Kimi mumbled. She cuddled closer to Voltaire.

"Volty's strong. He can handle it," Ava assured. "He's just so stubborn." She laid her head down to sleep.

Kimi carefully read through the instructions Dawn had written about healing. The basic idea was that since Dawn could use some demon magic, possibly demons could use some of the angel magic.

It was a couple days before Voltaire was well enough to train for demon spells. He had managed to activate a barrier like Kimi's a couple times on accident, but couldn't figure out how he did it. That was what he was trying to figure out now, as he experimented outside.

Adair was in the barn with Ava. He was started to feel ill. Voltaire was still mad at him and Ava but felt just slightly sorry for him anyway.

Damon watched Voltaire with a light amusement from the porch. Since it was still light out he was using his glamour. "You want a hint about that barrier?" he asked, smirking smugly.

Kimi looked up from where she was seated next to him, between Damon and Dawn.

"I'll figure it out," Voltaire insisted stubbornly.
