Some Things Just Can't Be Understood

"Its all about personality" Pheobie informed him cheerfully. "See how well the Pichu, Umbreon and... Maple, what's the cute little fox thing laying against my leg?"

"Vulpix," Maple informed her, before nearly tripping over the Phanpy. "Yes, they do seem to get along quite well."

The little Charmander shyly wandered over, at the encouraging of its Pichu friend.

"You have to find ones with compatible personalities. Do Groovy and your umbreon get along well?" Pheobie asked

"Well, they clash sometimes," admitted Maple. "But when it comes down to battles they work well together. And when they do get set apart they start missing each other. It's odd."

"Well, opposites do attract sometimes" Pheobie smiled

"Groovy was my first. Got him from a guy called Professor Birch as a Treeko," Maple explained. "Ah that's right. Pokemon evolve, or change form, as well. There are various triggers, but a lot of times it's a matter of gaining experience and leveling up through battling. Though a Pokemon doesn't have to evolve unless it wants to. Right, Groovy?"

"Vyle!"

"Okay" Pheobie nodded "I guess I can understand that"

"Anyway, I got Adrianne much later," Maple replied, before his expression got more serious. "I rescued her from the Battle Factory area in one of those Frontier places. It's fine if you're using your own Pokemon, but they're rough on their rental Pokemon. She's a toughie, and even she got worn down."

"Umb," Adrianne mewed softly, rubbing Maple's cheek.

"Anyway! What was my point?" He paused. "Oh yes! Some Pokemon you just end up randomly picking up along the way due to some reason or other."

"Okay" Pheobie smiled. "Well, I'm just going to pet them for now. I'll make a decision later"

"Fair enough. No hurry," said Maple, watching the Phanpy scuttle around his feet. Adrianne was beginning to get annoyed with the little elephant and growled at it. "Be nice girl," Maple warned.

"looks like it likes you" Pheobie smiled

The Phanpy happily gave Maple a push with its little trunk. That little trunk was powerful though, as it knocked Maple's leg out from under him. Maple cried out in surprise as he fell hard on his rear. Adrianne jumped down and snarled at the little Phanpy, scaring it off.

"Now girl..."

"It was just playing" Pheobie frowned.

Adrianne let out a huff, sitting down next to Maple. The professor looked for the Phanpy, but it was nowhere in sight.

"Unfortunately she doesn't get along with many other Pokemon that well," said Maple, sighing.

The little Pichu was now climbing up Pheobie's hair to get to the top of her head.

Pheobie giggled. "I think this one really likes me"

"I get that impression of the Umbreon too," added Maple, watching the black creature rolled over in her lap and wanting its belly rubbed. The Vulpix looked up at the Umbreon and shook its head before laying its head back down.

Giggling, Pheobie rubbed its belly until it started pumping its leg in pleasure. "I think so too" She stated, careful not to move her head too much and upset the pichu perched on it.

The Pichu began to laugh at how silly the Umbreon looked...and, being a baby Pokemon, accidentally shocked itself and the others in the process.

"Ah! Are you alright?" Maple exclaimed. Now he remembered why he wasn't fond of Pichu.

Pheobie's hair was standing on end. "I'm fine..." she stated, sounding a little pained

"Bre..." said the Umbreon, sounding a little dazed. The Vulpix, who had seen it coming and had backed a fair distance, began to laugh. The Umbreon growled at at the fox, then at the Pichu. The little yellow mouse hid in Pheobie's hair.

"Hey! Calm down" Pheobie protested

"Easy," said Gemini, who up to now had just been watching. She picked up the Umbreon in her arms, and it soon relaxed. "You have to be careful with Pokemon. They can get jealous or riled up easily since it's in their nature to fight."

The little Charmander, who had hidden briefly during the scuffle, now came back into view and came closer to Pheobie.

Pheobie winced as the pichu tugged her hair again in an attempt to hide. She smiled when she saw the charmander. "Hi there" She chirped. She held out her hand.

"Char...?" replied the Charmander, unsure about what to do with her hand. He stared at it in curiosity.

"Come on" Pheobie coaxed "I don't bite"
