Thunderstorm

"Yeah, only stupid spectators are right up front," said Mikaela. "We're too busy guarding our own skins to worry about everyone else's."

Ross noded. "That makes sense. It's that way with the sports games here."

"What kind of sports do you have?" asked Mikaela.

Ross smiled "Well there is the footbal, baseball, basketball, vollyball, wrestleing, swimming, tennis, track and feild, flying sports, and gymnastics. Though I don't know much about some of them."

"Don't know much about any of them," admitted Mikaela. "We've got a obstacle-course type thing at the tournaments, but those are known to be deadlier than the fights."

Ross chuckled. "I'll have to show you some of them before you leave."

"How long can we stay here?" asked Mikaela.

Ross smiled. "That's up to you. If you want you can stay if you gain citizenship. It's not hard from what mom and dad told me."

Mikaela turned back to the Prince. "How does that sound? Would you like to get way from the tournaments?"

The Prince nodded. "Yeah. But I'd like to go home too."

"It will probably still be awhile before we can do that," replied Mikaela. "Would you be okay with staying here for now?"

"Okay!" the Prince chirped.

Mikaela turned back to Ross. "So what do we have to do?"

Ross shrugged. "I think you have to fill out a few forms and take a test to become a citizen of the island. You should learn some of the rules...you have to be careful with your powers."

"We haven't been zapping or drenching anybody," said Mikaela, before looking down to her floating feet. "...Or do you mean the gliding?"

Ross chuckled. "Just be careful not to hurt anyone. That's the most of it. there are areas where you're not allowed to fly or glide but those are mostly in city areas."

"Why not?" asked the Prince in a half-whine.

"Hush. Some actual walking will do you good," Mikaela replied.

Ross laughed. "Some of the areas are highly poluted and dangerous. Others are just too cramped for flying."

"Why are some of these places in such bad shape?" asked Mikaela.

Ross sighed. "It depends on the lord that is in control of the area. Depending on what they see as important they will do things differently. The lord of the industrial discrict is the brother of the current king. He keeps the area poluted and dark. Humans and weaker creatures can't live or work there because the smog is so thick. The port district is filled with crooks and hookers. The good districts are the center district, the schooling one where we are now, the spiritual district, and the residential district."

"But why does the keep the area polluted in the first place?" asked Mikaela.

Ross frowned. "The place is filled with factories that polute the air. He makes no effort to clean up the air or improve the standards there. He's too focused on gaining money and power."

"Oh, one of those types," answered Mikaela. "If he's the king's brother why doesn't the kind do something about it? Or is it because he's the king's brother that he can get away with it?"

Ross shrugged. "The king tends to be a bit of an air head....plus the guy just isn't forcing businesses to keep up to code. No one wants to patrol that stink hole. Most people cant' even work there."

"Oh," Mikaela replied. "Well, whatever. It's not like I would want to visit it anyway. Not if there's nicer places to live."

Ross nodded. "You'd like the resadential area. It's a lovely place. Mostly families and couples though."

Mikaela shrugged. "Sounds better than the city place." She thought it would be nice for the Prince to have playmates of his own age though.

Ross nodded and smiled. "There's also the central district. It's closer to the palace and has more shops. It's where most people go to just enjoy themselves."

"Hmm, that sounds tempting too," said Mikaela. "How much choice do you get over which district you live in?"
