"Well, pretty much you have to have the intention of healing with it instead of hurting," Voltaire explained. "It's a simple concept but I had a lot of trouble with it. You're used to healing others though, so it probably won't be as hard for you."

"Okay. So all I have to do is think about healing while I blow flame?" Kimi asked

"Yeah," Voltaire replied. "Go ahead and try it. Just blow flame upward or something while trying to focus on healing."

Kimi closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Slowly she blew a steady stream of fire upwards. It was normal colored at first, but changed to white a minute later.

"Hey, here you go!" Voltaire praised. "I knew it wouldn't be a problem for you."

Kimi cut the flame short with a grin. "I did good?" She asked

"Yeah, you pulled it off the first time," replied Voltaire. "Adair took three or four tries, I think. I don't know why I took so damn long. I guess I'm used to destroying things."

Kimi smiled and hugged him, burying her face in his chest. "I'm glad you're teaching me" She murmured.

"No problem," Voltaire replied, smiling and hugging back. "The better you are with fighting back and healing yourself, the less I have to worry."

Kimi giggled. "Do you think I'm ready to help in the tournaments?" She asked softly.

Voltaire paused, his expression more serious. "Maybe in future ones. It'd probably be a good place to practice, since everyone gets healed afterward. But trust me, you don't need your first match to be against the Dragons."

"What if Adair doesn't get better in time?" Kimi asked. "I want to be able to help"

"Adair should be better by tomorrow, if not tonight," answered Voltaire. "It's...just not a good idea. Maybe the match after the Dragons." Assuming we get past them anyway.

"I could always use summons to help." Kimi murmured. "Couldn't I?"

"...You probably could, actually," Voltaire answered after thinking about it. "The only thing banned from tournament fights is mad-made weapons and direct interference from the familiar."

"You saw what Fiona did to Adair. And that was just for startling her." Kimi stated. "And you saw what Trevor did to that monster. Imagine what he could do to the bones the cats summon."

"Yeah, and imagine what the familiars would do to us if they got carried away and killed someone," Voltaire added. "...Still...how good are they against water and shocks?"

"Waterproof. Fiona would be alright, because she isn't poisonous, but Trevor would get mad at the shocks. I don't know if he would bite or not." Kimi stated.

"Hmm..." Voltaire mused. "Might want to stick to Fiona then. Use Trevor as a last resort. Just how poisonous is he?"

He killed a demon on my homeworld about twice Ava's side in about five minutes. All because he tried to hit me." Kimi stated. "He's that poisonous."

"...Probably not a good idea then," replied Voltaire. Trevor's poison might be able to be treated by the demon doctors, but not if the victim died on the way there. As much as Mikaela and some others annoyed them, he didn't want them dead. Well, except maybe Omen.

"I could always try telling him not to bite" Kimi stated.

"Well he is smart enough to talk," answered Voltaire. "But that doesn't mean he won't get pissed and bite someone instinctively. Better just stick with Fiona unless we have to use Trevor."

"Okay." Kimi smiled "Does this mean you'll let me help?"

"I...guess..." Voltaire finally relented. The summons might be their best shot at facing the Dragons. Sheer element disadvantage made them difficult to fight, but the summons didn't have that problem. "Just...watch it, okay? The Dragons hit hard and fast."
