Rain Dance

"...Maybe you can heal him, but we've got to get him to revert to human form first," answered Voltaire. "His wolf form isn't his natural form. He should go back to human form when he gets weak enough."

Caleb got up again, snarling and shivering.

"Yeah, whatever, you don't scare me even if you are insane," Voltaire taunted back with a sneer.

Kimi nodded and stepped out of the way. "Do you want me to stay back while you weaken him?"

"Yeah, that'd be best," Voltaire replied, lighting both arms on fire and spitting out some fire. "Don't want you hurt if you have to absorb a bunch of demonic energy. And it looks like he has a lot to get rid of."

He rushed forward as Caleb leapt forth again. The wolf tried to bite him but was driven back by flames. Voltaire had to worry more about slipping on ice being formed than a direct attack. He struck him with another firebreath attack but the wolf still stood snarling.

Damn, usually that would be enough. Must be the extra boost from all the demon energy

Kimi watched carefully. Voltaire looked like he was having trouble but was holding his own easily enough.

Voltaire and Caleb continued to block and evade each other's attacks, almost dancing around each other. The wolf was practically glowing with red power, sparks slithering over him.

This isn't getting anywhere. Looks like I'll have to play rough.

Voltaire's arms stopped burning as he fired an especially long and powerful blast of flame. Despite the range of the attack Caleb evaded, leaping away from the blast. He headed straight for the Hunter and sunk his frigid teeth into one of the exposed arms. Voltaire hissed in pain and shuddered, but then he sneered.

The Hunter hit Caleb with a point-blank firebreath while also lighting his arms on fire. The wolf yowled as both his body and inner mouth were seared with flame. He collapsed to the ground as Voltaire's attack finished. A moment later the wolf's fur reverted to a cloak, exposing Caleb's human form.

Kimi stepped forward cautiously and rolled Caleb onto his back. She could practically feel the demonic energy radiating from him. Dipping her head, she pressed her lips to his, opening their mouths together. She sucked the energy from him, as much as she could hold, before letting go.

Her face flushed and she was short of breath. "Taire..." She murmured before collapsing to the ground, healing herself through sleep.

"Kimi!" Voltaire exclaimed, picking her up. He knew that she would be okay with some rest, but seeing her weakened still worried. Also, he was stupidly jealous of Caleb, even though there was nothing romantic about the healing. His own arm was still bleeding some, but it was quickly recovering.

The Hunter was just wondering how to carry both of them back when he saw Adair running toward them in the tunnel.

"What happened?" asked the redhead as he arrived at the scene.

"Caleb was way overcharged with demonic energy. It made him crazy enough to attack us," Voltaire explained. "I managed to knock him out and then Kimi healed him, so he should be better now. Do me a favor and carry him back."

"Right," Adair replied, lifting Caleb up. "Did you have to roast him this much?"

"Yes," Voltaire replied flatly. "Doesn't matter. We'll need to take him to the medical wing anyway."

(fast-forward whenever ready)

When Kimi woke, she was alone in their room. She was unsure of how long she had been asleep, or where Adair, Ava and Voltaire were. She sat up with a small noise of discomfort to stretch. Absorbing so much Demonic energy had made her stiff.

"...The hell I have to wait so long?" Voltaire's voice complained somewhere outside, as steps were heard.

"If you had healed it right away and not let frostbite set in, then it wouldn't have been so bad," Adair's bored voice replied.

"I'm a freaking Phoenix. Why the hell would I get frostbite?"

"Because the bite was a lot colder than normal," Adair answered as he appeared in the cave entrance. "Oh, hi Kimi. Feeling better?"

"Stiff" She mumbled in reply. "Is Caleb alright?"

"He'll be alright," Voltaire answered. "But he's not going to be fighting anytime soon. Match is cancelled. We'll be leaving tomorrow."

"So we win by default?" Kimi asked, stretching again.

"Pretty much," Voltaire replied, checking stored supplies. "If he fought then he would be weak and easily beaten, and it wouldn't take long for Belle to lose against the both of us. Kind of like when we ganged up on the Prince. Anyway, Ava's off to collect the soul prize, so she'll be back later."

"Alright." Kimi smiled. "Are you alright Taire?"

"Yeah. I had to stay at the doc's for a little while because I got frostbite from Caleb earlier, but that's all fixed up," Voltaire replied, going over to Kimi. "Oh yeah, Caleb says thanks."

"I'm just glad I could help" Kimi smiled, letting her hands drop into her lap.

"Yeah, he probably would have started evolving otherwise," Voltaire added. "His levels of demonic energy are still high, but not overflowing like they were before. Anyway, he's doesn't plan on becoming a demon either. Most people don't, really, though there are some that do."

"Are you going to sit with me?" Kimi asked.

(They should get her to drink with them. lol. She's never had more than a sip of whine before)

"Well, we were thinking of going for drinks," Voltaire admitted. "There's no match to worry about tomorrow."

"Besides, we won," added Adair. "That's a cause for celebration if there ever was any."

"Oh. Alright then" Kimi smiled. "Don't get too drunk"

"No guarantees," replied Voltaire, before pausing. "Do you want to come with us? Ava won't be back for awhile."

"Is that okay?" Kimi asked shyly. "I don't really drink though. All I've ever had was a sip of wine once"

"Yeah, it's fine," Voltaire replied. "It'll be more fun than just sitting here."

"Maybe it'll keep Taire from drinking too much. Maybe," Adair replied, shrugging.

"Alright" Kimi smiled and stood up. She stumbled slightly on her way over to the men.

"You okay?" asked Voltaire, placing a hand on her back.
