Have a Heart

"She's almost there you know. Almost to the point of gaining the official title." Kasey remarked.

(How would the older Gales feel about her actually getting the status? would they keep her from doing it and try and keep her cooped up or would they not give a damn?)

(I think they would mind, but they probably wouldn't actually interfere unless it threatened to make them look bad or she was getting nosy with their business. Above normal female status, but not equal. They may try using Clarent on her at some point.)

"As in the title of Hero or knight?" asked Daniel.

"Hero. Knights have very different training regiments." Kasey stated

"I see," Daniel answered. "Well, the world can always use more Heroes. There's never a shortage of demons or bad people."

"I know." Kasey sighed

Daniel sighed as well. "I wish people would stop being stupid, giving hearts to demons and such things. A pact with a demon never leads to anything good, regardless of intentions."

"Not all demons are heart hungry monsters." Kasey stated. "Truthfully, a demon lead me to Ellona. A small silver tailed fox demon, took my sword and made me follow it until I found Ellona. Then it told me what awaited me in my future."

"I've heard of that," Daniel replied. "Usually an ulterior motive is involved. Any ideas why it helped you?"

"When I was a kid, I used to free animals from poachers' traps. Foxes especially, since they are considered to be deities of good fortune where I was born. Many animal demons look upon things like that with kindness." Kasey replied. "I must have rescued some of the demon's kin."

"Ah," Daniel replied. "That makes sense. A lot of animal-type demons watch over their kin like that, or have animal followers. There are quite a few human-types like that too, actually."

Kasey nodded. "Many people just can't seem to understand that not all demons are heart stealers. Most of the demons that people see, that people get attacked by, are the bad ones. The kind, benevolent demons stay back and keep hidden because of the negative image cast by the few demons that actually go out of their way to steal hearts or harm humans."

(tis kay. Extra money is good, but I know how it goes :P)

"We seem to have mostly the bad kind at home then," remarked Daniel. He wondered what his father would say about the possibility of good demons. He didn't see that argument going well.

"Not true. You only see or encounter the bad ones. You probably have many demons in hiding all over." Kasey replied

"...I suppose that's a point," Daniel replied. "Just don't try telling my dad that."

"Never try and correct veteran heroes. They will never accept change." Kasey stated. "I learned that the hard way."

"Does that apply to you as well?" Daniel asked with a slight smirk.

"I am not a hero. Technically I'm not even a knight." Kasey replied.

"I see," Daniel replied. "Have some rough times with older Heroes then?"

"I've been stuck through a few times." Kasey replied. "And the only reason I'm still here is because of the prince's divine witch blade."

"It's not heroic to stab someone through for no reason," Daniel answered with a frown. "I think I've seen the blade you're talking about. It heals as well?"

"No, but it does control water, and it does well to keep it in the body." Kasey replied. "And Heroes find reasons to get rid of nothings like me that pose problems for them. That's another reason why I have my rank."

"I hope you think not all of us are like that," said Daniel.

"Most." Kasey replied. "The Gales especially."

"How flattering," Daniel answered dryly. "Would one of those be Bastion Gale?"

"I 'm not usually graced with a name." Kasey replied. "Just a face and armour."
