"Former fiance," Daniel explained. "He died from battle wounds."

"Oh," Bowan replied. "May he rest in peace."

Daniel was tempted to mention the ghost but knew better.

"He prefers the magic arts," Daniel explained. "He was teaching me some of it a little while ago."
