Rain Dance

Voltaire nuzzled her hair. Soon he too drifted off.

They were facing the Wolves this first round, as they often seem to battle them, so Voltaire gave it little thought. Between the usual fire powers and the new demon powers they stood little chance. Besides, he had other matters to think about.

"Now Voltaire, sometimes this kind of thing happens when you have sex," Barret said in a parently manner.

"Shut it old man," Voltaire grumbled between chews. He wanted to enjoy his cafeteria meal in peace, but that was hard since everyone else knew about the pregnancy already. Adair had kept quiet. Ava had not.

Kimi blushed next to him, her face an interesting lime green. She had wanted to stay in the room, but both men had agreed that she needed to eat.

Voltaire spat some flame in Barret's direction. The older Cat dodged it easily and was more amused than intimidated. He left anyway.

Voltaire sighed and continued with his meal.

Adair, not having as many interruptions as Voltaire or Kimi, had already finished eating. He had left for the gym. The match was in a couple hours.

Kimi picked at her food, embarrassed about all the stares and whispers around them.

Voltaire rubbed Kimi's back. "Don't mind them. They're just being stupid."

Kimi nodded slowly. She still didn't like being the center of attention.

"Yeah, don't worry about it," Mikaela interjected, floating over to their table. "They're just glad to have something to blab about beside people hunting them, hating them, killing them, or somebody evolving. It's kind of refreshing."

"What do you want?" asked Voltaire a little warily.

"Relax, I'm not going to eat anybody," Mikaela replied without concern. "Just thought I'd say hi, and congrats."

Kimi looked up at her shyly, her cheeks still green. "Congrats?" she whispered questioningly

"Congratulations for getting pregnant," Mikaela clarified. She poked Voltaire with a smirk. "And for taming this monster here."

"Who here isn't a monster to some extent?" asked Voltaire.

Kimi bit her lip and ducked her head again. "Oh" she replied in a small voice.

"Well, I'm off to get some food now," Mikaela said, beginning to walk away. "You take good care of her now."

"Of course," Voltaire said solemnly, straightening.

Mikaela laughed as she melted into the crowd.

Voltaire was confused and annoyed. What did she find so funny?

"I'm not hungry" Kimi mumbled, pushing her mostly untouched plate away.

"You sure?" asked Voltaire.

Kimi nodded slowly. "yeah..."

"Alright, guess we can go back to the room for now," replied Voltaire, finishing up his own food. "Though I'll have to leave soon to get ready for the match."

Kimi nodded slowly. She knew the match was soon.

Voltaire got up to return his mostly empty plate. "You okay?"

"Tired" Kimi mumbled softly. "That's all"

"Oh, uh, alright," Voltaire answered awkwardly as they started walking back to their cave room. "Just wanted to make sure because of...everything. This is new for me so...well, guess it's new to you, so I guess...I guess I should just shut up since I'm not making any sense." He chuckled nervously.

Kimi kept her gaze to the floor as they walked, staying quiet.

After some awkward silence Voltaire took her hand. "It's okay."

Kimi looked up at him. "Are you sure?" She whispered

Voltaire gave her a quick smooch. "Yeah."

They walked into the cave room and found Adair there.

"That was a quick workout," commented Voltaire. "Match is still two hours away."

"Our now non-existent match," corrected Adair. "Caleb evolved last night."

Kimi looked up. "Evolved?" She asked "Like, became a demon?"

"Yeah," Adair replied. "Won't know much else about it for a while since he'll be in a cocoon for a couple of months. Either way he's not going to be able to come to the match, so we win by default."
