Some Things Just Can't Be Understood

"Yay!" Pheobie cheered lightly, hugging Maple in thanks. "I'm gonna go to my room for a nap now." She smiled before turning and skipping off in the right direction.

"...Welcome," Maple answered, feeling warm inside. Then he remembered the others' presence and immediately felt embarrassed. "Anyway! Onto the control room! What are the coordinates for this jungle world?"

Pheobie skipped to her room and changed from her skirt into a pair of shorts. She laid down with a yawn, but couldn't fall asleep.

Maple was busy typing in coordinates for the jungle world. It was one he hadn't been to, so he couldn't select it from his usual list. Falcon was taking a nap on a couch a few rooms down while Dalios remained downstairs to keep an eye on the animals. Maple suspected that he was a bit miffed that someone had done better with the animals than him since it was usually his specialty.

Razekar walked over to Maple as he finished up his typing. "So, you kissed her yet?"

Maple about gagged. "W-What are you talking about? I've barely known her for a day!"

Razekar laughed at Maple's embarrassed reaction.

Pheobie laid there for a while before deciding it wasn't helping. She put her skirt back on and headed up to the kitchen.

"Hey, different paces for different fellas," Razekar answered with a smirk and a shrug. "I just wouldn't take too long."

Maple now felt extremely awkward. He had been prepared to deal with Razekar if he got too flirty. He hadn't expected Razekar to see right through him.

Pheobie started getting out stuff for a sandwich when she realized that the others might be hungry, so she started boiling some eggs for egg salad.

"I...she didn't really have anything back at her world, so I decided to take her with me," Maple tried to explain. "It's nice having someone else along once in a while."

"Well, yeah. Traveling by yourself is lonesome," Razekar agreed. "Glad you got someone now. Makes you act less insane."

"Who says insanity is a bad thing?" Maple asked.

Pheobie moved on to shelling, and cutting the eggs when they were cooked. She mixed them in a bowl with some spices and mayonnaise before making a big plateful of sandwiches.

Falcon woke up at the smell of food. He wandered into the kitchen.

"Hey Pheobie," he greeted. "Whacha making?"

"Egg salad sandwiches. Want one?" Pheobie replied, countering with a question of her own. She smiled at him cheerfully.

"Sure," replied Falcon. He hadn't eaten much since they had been busy trying to help the zoo animals.

Maple meanwhile was still talking with Razekar. The odd-eyed young man was offering tips, most of which Maple didn't agree with.

"Just help me bring the plates up to the control room so everyone can have some, Kay?" Pheobie asked sweetly. "Your friends and Maple must be hungry too"

"No problem," Falcon answered, taking a couple steps before pausing. "...Where are the plates?"

"No silly, the pig plates the sandwiches are on." Pheobie explained, motioning to the two big plates of food sitting on the counter. "I can only get one by myself"

"Oh! Well that makes things easier," Falcon replied, feeling stupid. "But I guess we'll still need to get drinks and stuff too, right?"

"I can come back for those on my own. That way I can also ask what everyone wants" Pheobie smiled.

"Oh, uh, okay," Falcon answered, picking up one of the plates. "So, uh, where are you from anyway?"

"Sclora" Pheobie replied simply. "Where are you from?" She picked up the other plate and began leading the way.

"Oh, uh, Pharos's Palace," Falcon answered, though not entirely truthfully. He didn't want to mention anything about the first ten years of his life. "It was this huge place run by, you know, Pharos. He collected everything, and I mean everything. He had all kinds of stuff attached to the walls, like pictures and spoons and wooden soldiers and stuff. You could barely even see the walls. And he collected people too. Lots of people, as long as they were interesting in some way. I think there were thousands living there."

"Sounds better than Sclora." Pheobie replied. "I hated it there." She refused to say anymore on the subject as they entered the control room. "I made lunch!" She chirped.

"Oh hi!" Maple greeted. "I thought you were sleeping. But lunch sounds good too."

"What are we having?" asked Razekar.

"Egg salad sandwiches. And I couldn't sleep. So I went to get a snack, then I thought 'Hm. Everyone else should be hungry too, Its past lunch time'" Pheobie smiled "So I made lunch."

"Sounds good," answered Razekar. "Better than anything the professor can cook up."

"Hey, I can cook some," Maple protested.

"Well you haven't made us sick yet anyway."

"You shouldn't pick on Maple" Pheobie defended. "It isn't his fault. Besides, I like cooking"
