Sweet as Sugar

"Do you remember your parents Mu?" Melly asked.

"Nope. All I remember is the cirque and other imps and Summer" Mu replied

"Oh. That's kind of sad," said Melly. Her own parents made her sad, but she didn't think she would want to forget them entirely.

"I was still real young when Edwin found me" Mu stated

"Oh," Melly answered. She wondered if something had happened to the parents, either by accident or on purpose. She had heard of heartless poachers who killed the parents to take a cub and sell it. She didn't want to mention that to Mu though.

"Edwin said he had to go through a lot to find me, but I was alone. Maybe I was an orphan" Mu chirped

"Maybe that's just as well," Melly answered. "Seems the biggest problems a lot of people have are with family, even though they still love them."

"All the families I've seen have been happy" Mu frowned.

"Well...I guess it depends on the family," Melly admitted. "But there are quite a few families who act happy but aren't, or who become unhappy in the future. It just...seems to be that way."

"..." Mu wrapped his arms around Melly and hugged her close, hiding his face in her shoulder. "I would never let you be unhappy" He murmured into the fabric of her shirt.

Melly stroked his hair.

"It's not you I'm worried about. You're a very good person," Melly reassured. "It's just..."

Tears began to leak out of her eyes, ad she buried her face in Mu's shoulder

"I don't know what happened with my family. We were so happy. What went wrong? Why can't I fix it?" she sobbed. "Did I do something wrong? Should I have tried harder? Was everything always wrong and I was just too stupid to notice it? What did I do wrong?"

Mu rocked her gently. "It couldn't have been your fault." He murmured soothingly. "Maybe it just wasn't ment for them to be together."

"But they were together for years and years! Long before they had me!" Melly cried. "How could it have been a mistake for that long?"

"Sometimes it happens. But it isn't your fault." Mu cooed.

Melly sniffled some. "...I'm sorry. I'm being such a downer. Nobody needs depressed people."

Mu cupped her face in his hands and spread feather-light kisses on her face. He kissed away her tears. "Hush. Don't cry. Don't cry" He whispered.

Melly still sniffled, but her tears lessened. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry."

"Its not your fault." Mu assured her softly.

"...Okay," Melly replied, nuzzling him a little.

Mu purred lightly and nuzzled her back. "Its okay" He cooed. "I'm here. I'll make you feel better"

"Thanks," Melly answered, resting against his chest.

Mu hummed in response. "I love you Melly." He whispered.

Melly rubbed his cheek against his chest. "U-Um...love you?"

Mu's purring deepened in pleasure. "You don't have to say it back if you don't want" He told her, though it was obvious that he enjoyed hearing it.

Melly blushed, hiding her face in his shirt. "I don't know what I should say."
