Mu looked at her in confusion. "Huh? I don't understand"

"I don't get it either," whined Melly. "That's why I'm trying to figure it out."

Mu frowned. "What don't you understand? Maybe I can help"

"Just...why it happens," Melly answered. "If I knew what caused it, then maybe I could fix it somehow."

"Why what happens?" Mu asked, quickly growing more confused

"What causes a heart to rot out," Melly clarified. "Sometimes it's really obvious, so it's easier to help with. But sometimes it happens and I can't understand the reason. That's what I mean."

"Who's heart is rotting out?" Mu asked

"...Parents," Melly answered quietly. "I've known some others too."

"What makes you say that?" Mu asked.

Melly cuddled closer. "It's just...they used to be so nice and caring about everything, but now..."

"Are they human?" Mu asked.

Melly nodded. "I was human too. At least, I think I was. The whole genius thing didn't start until later, I think. It's kind of hard to remember."

"Well, sometimes humans think they love, but they don't really and when they stop feeling the same, they act different." Mu stated.

"...Your kind is different?" asked Melly. "How do you know?"

"Imps know when they meet their special person, they're the other half of our heart." Mu stated.

"Is it always a person? Or does it vary?" asked Melly.

"It varies. Sometimes its with the animals that our beast forms resemble." Mu stated.

"Never with other imps?" Melly questioned.

"Very rarely." Mu smiled. "But it has happened."

"...Doesn't that make it hard to make other imps though?" Melly questioned.

"No. Imps are made when an imp mates with a beast." Mu smiled. "Just not with humans."

"Oh," replied Melly. "What happens with a human? Anything?"

"We have babies that look like human form imps With ears and tails." Mu smiled.

"That sounds so cute," Melly mused.

"I've only seen a few, but they are cute" Mu smiled.
