Rain Dance

Kimi peaked out of her hiding place and finally crept out once the was alone. She hurried back to the room. When she saw that Voltaire was busy, she sat down near him and hugged her knees.

Voltaire was so engrossed in his work that it took him a little while to notice Kimi. "Oh hey. Have a nice walk?"

Kimi hugged her knees tighter. "That girl's scary" She murmured.

"What? Eel girl?" Voltaire remarked, before he thought about it more. "She didn't harass you or anything, did she?"

"A little." Kimi admitted. "She wanted to know why I liked you"

Voltaire snorted. "What'd you tell her?"

"I didn't." Kimi murmured. "She scares me. so I ran away"

"You know she'll be one of the people we'll be fighting tomorrow, right?" said Voltaire. "You won't be able to run much then. I mean, I'll be the one fighting her the most, but she still might go after you too."

"I know." Kimi mumbled. "But I'll be brave cause I'm with you."

"I know you will be," Voltaire answered, embracing her lightly. "But it'll still be tough."

"At least I won't have to talk" Kimi murmured, nuzzling into his chest. "I don't like talking to other people. Just you"

"I've noticed," Voltaire replied with slight amusement, resting his head on top of hers. "But yeah, you wouldn't need to worry about that so much."

Kimi smiled softly and closed her eyes. "Love you" She whispered

"Love you too," Voltaire answered, giving her a couple kisses on the top of her head. "Let's go to bed. It's going to be a hectic day tomorrow."

"Okay" Kimi yawned. "I promise to do my best"

"Of course," Voltaire answered softly, giving her another kiss on the forehead before heading for the blankets. He slipped between the furs and was beginning to drift off even as he waited for Kimi.

Kimi slipped the mended pants off and slid under the blanket as well. She was still used to sleeping in a dress, not pants. She curled into Voltaire's side with a happy, sleepy little sigh.

Voltaire wondered if he should move the pants, as to keep Adair from getting the wrong idea. Both out of laziness and mischievousness he decided to leave them there. He snuggled closer to Kimi and was soon fast asleep.

He was flying, flying higher and higher. Out of the corners of his eyes he saw red feathers. The trees and mountains below were shrinking away, more and more of it becoming obscured by clouds. He would leave it all behind in favor of the sun shining above him. Nothing was holding him back from reaching that sun. He was free. He was free because of those wings. Those wings-

-Were not wings, as he looked back on them. They were a mess of fiery strings, quickly shedding their beautiful feathers and coming undone. They lashed around the Hunter and bound him tightly, burning into his skin. Then he was falling, falling-

He was stuck. All around him was darkness and a complex web of burning string that entangled him. He tried to writhe out of it and the web writhed back, causing incredible pain. The string wasn't just tangled around him, it was weaved inside of him. There was no way he could break free of this web of string, which could not be string. He didn't know what the hell it was, but it was notstring. Hell, he preferred falling to this. At least falling had an end .

The web tightened and suddenly he found it hard to breathe. Just how deep did this web go into him? He wanted it to stop. He wanted something, anything to come and cut the web and make it-

"Stop!" Voltaire cried hoarsely, before he fully recovered his senses and remembered where he was.

Kimi woke with a start. "Are you okay?" She asked in concern. "What's wrong Taire?"

"...Nothing. I'm okay," Voltaire answered quietly, cuddling closer to her and nuzzling her shoulder. "Just some weird-ass dream, that's all." He heard Adair singing softly in the background, undisturbed by the nightmare-induced cry.

"Guess you're not the only one who sleep sings." Kimi smiled softly, petting his hair. "Are you sure you're alright?"

(He's not one to be devious when there are sleeping people in the room is he?)

(No. There is a reason why we've started in the middle of the night like this)

"...Yeah, I'm fine," Voltaire replied, though he stayed close to Kimi. The longer he was awake the more ridiculous the dream seemed and the harder it was to remember. "And yeah, Adair sings in his sleep too. Not as much though. Ava says that when we both sing in our sleep at the same time, we'll start competing with each other and our singing will sound more annoyed as it goes on. Sleep-singing-fighting, I guess?"

Kimi giggled. "Maybe" She kissed his forehead softly. "Why don't you go back to sleep?"

Voltaire kissed her shoulder. "Yeah, that sounds-"

Ava gave a surprised squawk and sat up, lifting up the wing Adair was under. The redhead was sleeping and singing, with golden wings sprouted from his back.

Voltaire quickly sat up, staring. He had heard about his own wings from the others, but it was strange seeing the Hero with them.

"Fiery! You too?" asked Ava. Predictably there was no response from Adair.

Kimi blinked in surprise. "What causes that?" she asked
