Rain Dance

"I didn't wake you did I?" Kimi asked with a small yawn.

"Nah," Voltaire replied, sitting up and stretching. "My stomach did."

He noticed Adair under Ava's wing, looking tired and miserable. He sympathized.

"Should we wake up Adair for breakfast?" Kimi asked with another yawn.

Adair groaned as he tucked his head under Ava's wing, disappearing from sight.

"Doesn't sound like he's interested in breakfast," said Voltaire.

"Guess not" Kimi sighed. "Should we bring him something?"

"Yeah, probably," Voltaire answered. Adair seemed to be taking this worse than he had. Then again, he had flown for longer. "How long until the match Ava?"

"Two hours," replied the phoenix, as she fussed over Adair.

"Food, then some training?" Kimi asked, sitting up.

"Yeah," Voltaire replied. "You ready?"

Kimi nodded. "Ready" She smiled

"Alright then," Voltaire replied, taking her hand and leading the way.

Breakfast was uncomfortably crowded. Quite a few people and demons had seen Adair last night, and such strange news spread fast. This meant lots of questions for Voltaire as he was trying to eat.

"I told you, I don't know what the hell causes it or what the hell it means," grumbled Voltaire, working on some steak. It was a small steak, but it was steak.

Kimi was picking at some fruit. She was still very shy as people tried to talk to Voltaire.

Belle came over to Kimi, fully human except for her wolf tail.

"Um, where's Adair?" she asked. "I heard about the whole flying thing."

Kimi, thinking she was talking to Voltaire, kept her head bowed.

Belle tilted her head slightly to get a better look at Kimi. "You don't talk much."

Kimi blinked and looked up, finally getting that she was being addressed.

"Do you know where Adair is?" Belle repeated. "Usually I see him by now."

Kimi pointed to Voltaire and ducked her head again.

"That's not Adair," said Belle, mistaking the gesture. "Tell me where Adair is."

Kimi gestured to Voltaire again, taking a bite from an apple.

Belle went over to Voltaire, more in annoyance with Kimi than in understanding the gesture. "Where's Adair?"

"Sick," Voltaire answered. "Summoning the wings wore him out, or something. I don't really get it myself."

"Oh," said Belle, sounding worried. "I hope he feels better soon."

Kimi worked on finishing the apple. Apples were the one mortal food she was actually fond of.

The changelings suddenly scattered as Voltaire spat out some flames at them.

"Let's go eat somewhere else," Voltaire grumbled to Kimi, taking his food and dumping it into a bag.

Kimi shrugged and stood. Her plate was empty save for the apple still in her hand.

Voltaire walked out of the cafeteria area and searched for a nice private place to eat. "You okay, Kimi?"

Kimi nodded. Not quite up for talking just yet. It really had been a mad house in the cafeteria.
