"Okay. But wouldn't a hug be better?" Anja asked. "That's the one thing I can remember about my mother, she would hug me when I was sad."

Adair thought about it. "...Yeah, I guess that could work. I'm just more used to slaps and kicks. Though if it's right after Chiaroscuro the only thing that will do any good is sleep."

Anja smiled at him softly. "Alright. I'll keep that in mind"

Adair paused again. "Um...if we're going to be doing this...a lot...uh..."

"What?" Anja asked "Is something wrong?"

"Um..." Adair began, trying to find the words. "Should we...get married?"

Anja shrugged. "Do you want to get married?" She asked

"Uh..." Adair began, not expecting such an indifferent answer. "It's...what should be done, right? I mean..."

"Whatever you think is right is the right thing to be done." Anja replied. "If you can find someone to wed us, and you want to marry me, then go ahead." She didn't mention that she thought Adair could do better than her.

"I guess...maybe when things are more...settled down," Adair replied. "Not being on the run would help. And having my heart fixed would help."

"You think that'll actually happen?" Anja asked. "You must be really optimistic."

Adair looked away. "...No, it probably won't."

Anja gave his hand a squeeze. "You can always hope" She reminded him with a sad smile.

"...Yeah," Adair replied, smiling slightly. "I guess my point is...not now. I don't think things will ever be the way they used to be, but maybe it'll be better later on. Now to get that through Taire's thick skull."

Anja smiled. "Good luck." she chuckled

Adair groaned. "I know. Why must he be so smart and so stupid at the same time?"

"Because he's a man. Its in your DNA" Anja teased lightly.

"...Yeah, I guess I can be pretty stupid too sometimes," Adair replied with some amusement.

"You can't help it. You're a male." Anja chuckled

"And as a female, you're just..." Adair started, before pausing. "...Dammit."

"Finish your sentence." Anja smirked. "What were you going to say?"

"Uh..." Adair went on. "Moody, I guess. Though I'm one to talk."

"Its a hormonal thing." Anja stated. "So we have an excuse."

"Testosterone makes us males stupid," said Adair. "So we have an excuse too."

They had finally made it back to Ava, who had been waiting for them. Voltaire was on Ava's back, dozing off.

"Reproduction makes females hormonal and moody and its the male's fault too, so we win that excuse" Anja countered
