"So? Is there a point hidden in there?" Anja asked

Adair walked over and grabbed the bag of gadgets, showing her the contents. "Weren't we going to do something about these?"

Anja smirked. "Target practice?" She asked

"Don't see anything else we can use," Adair replied, lazily looking around. "You know how it goes. One of the stupid things malfunctions as tries to attack us, so we attack back, right?"

"Why lie? I'd tell him I used it for target practice. And that I wasn't sorry" Anja stated

Adair thought about it. "Yeah, there's not much point in lying. He'd see right through it. Now's let's see..."

He pulled out the rooster machine and set it on the ground, sitting down as he pressed the buttons to activate it. The contraption and opened its mouth to receive a message.

"I am the evil chicken monster of Voltaire the Mad Scientist. Please put me out of my misery," Adair said in a dopey voice, before sending the rooster off to its doom.

Anja laughed. "What was that?" she snickered. "You sounded like an idiot"

Adair smiled and shrugged. "It automatically records a message. I figured I should say something."

The robot chicken waddled over to Anja, stopping in front of her to repeat Adair's message. Somehow the mechanical ring added to his voice made the words even more comical.

Anja snickered and blew out a jet of flame at it.

The robot rooster let out a mechanical squawk as it half-melted, rooting it in place. It was apparently still functional however, and spit a stream of fire back at Anja.

"evIL. EVil," it croaked.

Anja laughed harder, hiccuping out several small bursts of flame as she tried to breath in her mirth.

"...ad sciENtist..." the machine squawked on, fidgeting in place. "..lease put ME out OF my misERy..."

Finally catching her breath, Anja let out a long blast of flame.

"ISeryyyyeeeeeeeeeee-" the rooster cried as it continued to melt, soon becoming little more than a blob of melted metal. Suddenly it exploded, sending globs of hot liquid everywhere.

Anja yelped and scrambled away, trying not to get hit by molten metal.

Adair jumped away in surprise as well. The molten pool bubbled angrily on the floor, spluttering out a couple more small explosions before finally settling down.

"Damn, didn't expect it to do that," muttered Adair, still watching it warily. "Anja! You alright?"

"Yeah." Anja replied shakily. "Just startled me..."

"Same here," replied Adair, again looking to the molten metal on the floor. Maybe using Voltaire's contraptions as target practice wasn't such a good idea after all.

"What's next? We'll keep our distance next time" Anja smirked

Adair walked over to the bag and pulled out the cat-monkey machine. It took him awhile to find the switches to activate it. After it was finally turned on it turned around and waited for a message.

"I wish I could be a real cat. Or monkey. Or whatever," Adair said boredly, before sending the contraption on its way.

Anja melted this one from a distance.

The cat-monkey toppled over and thrashed as it melted, but it did not explode like the rooster did.

"...I c-could be reAL. I WISH I-I could be..."

"Now that one is just depressing. Is there any more?" Anja asked

"Agreed," said Adair, putting the poor thing out of its misery with one final firebreath. "Let's see...ah, here's the duck. I guess he had more than one." Upon activation the duck thing waited for a message.

"I am a duck, not a dragon! No matter what my master says," Adair spoke, and then sent it on its way.

Anja laughed. This time she tried her hand at a fireball.
