Saving Soul

There was a long silence, and then Adair heard Voltaire's furious yelling. Yeah, he was pissed.

Anja smirked. So much for Voltaire's good mood. He would just blame it all on her anyway.

Adair expected Voltaire to come rampaging out, but his voice quieted and he remained in the cave. Somehow this made Adair more nervous instead of less.

Anja roasted a pear to eat while she waited for the meltdown. She wasn't going back in there.

After the quietness spanned on for a while longer, Voltaire emerged from out of the cave. He appeared oddly calm.

"I know you two are out there!" he called. "And I know you're not making out because Ava is still acting normal! Anyway, lunch is being cooked and if don't come back I'll eat it all myself!"

He walked back into the cave.

Adair frowned. The Hunter must be up to something. He stayed where he was.

Anja roasted and ate another pear. She wasn't stupid.

Adair decided to cook and eat a pear himself while he waited. He wasn't worried about Voltaire's threat. He couldn't eat everything himself even if he wanted to, and the Hunter knew better than that anyway. Any leftovers would be saved for later. They never knew when hard times might come.

Anja yawned. Growing more bored, she decided to see if she could still summon. She put her hands together and concentrated. "Sciurus carolinensis" She murmured. A small black and furry mass materialized in front of her. She smirked. "Hello Wally"

Adair noticed the summoning. "What kind is that one?"

"Squirrel" Anja smiled. "Go say hi, Wally"

The little black squirrel jumoed out of the tree and scampered over to Adair's boot

After a bite from a Little Death Adair was wary of squirrels. But this one was Anja's, so he didn't mind so much.

"Hey there Wally," he greeted lazily. "You do any tricks?"

"Give him some pear and he'll give you kisses. Mostly he spies." Anja stated. "He can write pretty well."

"Why would I want kisses from a guy?" Adair asked, though he gave Wally some pear anyway.

Wally ate up the pear bit and scampered up to Adair's shoulder. He gave his cheek a tiny lick.

Adair chuckled and gave the black squirrel a couple of pets. "So you're thinking of using this little guy to check on Taire?"

"Yep." Anja smirked

"Thought so," Adair replied. "Though Taire might try to use him for target practice."

"He's good with stealth." Anja stated. "He's one of those vanishing squirrels."

"Vanishing squirrels?" Adair asked.

"Yup. Turn invisible when they're frightened." Anja replied

"Oh," Adair answered. He blew a little flame near it to see what would happen.

Wally chatttered in fear and vanished. He reappeared a few minutes later on Anja's shoulder, chattering at Adair in a scolding manner.

Anja chuckled lightly and pet wally with a finger.

Adair chuckled too. "He should be fine then."

"He was my second summon." Anja stated. "He's lasted this long."

"What was your first? The wolf?" asked Adair as he took another bite out of his cooked pear.
