Saving Soul

Adair flushed. They had already had a previous making out session before Omen appeared. And it had been an...unusual one too.

"Why hate me? Hate him," Voltaire replied boredly. "He's the perv."

"Because I actually know you well enough to hate you" Anja replied. "So there"

"Perfect logic," Voltaire replied dryly. "Why did you destroy my machines?"

"Payback for you being a dick." Anja replied "So there."

"You claim my robots, I claim the Gale armor," answered Voltaire. "So there."

"What?" exclaimed Adair, going over to his travel sack to check. No armor was to be found. "What did you do with it?"

"I would say that was fair, except it isn't mine and I was the one that used them for target practice." Anja stated. "That and Adair might have another one of his soul fits if you do anything to it."

"You didn't have anything to take in exchange, and even if Adair wasn't directly involved I'm sure he could have stopped you," replied Voltaire. He noticed Adair looking through the cooking fire. "And I haven't done anything to it, yet, besides hide it. I don't guarantee its safety if anything happens to my other stuff, though."

Outside Wally chattered loudly in fear causing Anja to sit up. "Did anyone else hear that?"

(would Omen mess with Wally?)

"A squirrel?" asked Voltaire.

"Anja's squirrel. One of her summons," Adiar explained. "I bet Omen has it."

"Crap!" Anja yelled, scrambling to her feet and rushing out of the cave.

"Wait!" Adair called after her, following. They didn't have to go far, as Omen was only a few feet away from the cave entrance. He had Wally by the tail.

"This yours?" asked the Raven with a sneer.

"Don't hurt him!" Anja cried anxiously. "He's my stealth summon!"

"A summon, huh?" asked Omen, lifting Wally up to better examine him. "Doesn't look like much."

"Just let him go," said Adair flatly. He didn't want to encourage Omen by being emotional about it. "I've seen you snatch birds out of the air in mid-flip. It doesn't surprise me that you caught a squirrel."

'The little guy was snooping around our camp," Omen explained. "Knew something was up since the squirrels around here aren't black and don't go invisible when you get near them."

"He was looking for me. I summoned him back when I was in the tree. Please let him go" She pleaded. She didn't get what Adair was getting at by being unemotional, she was very emotional about the though of harm coming to her little summon.

"Mmm, you must really want him back bad," Omen observed, waving the little creature in front of him. "Why should I?"

"Because he's my summon!" Anja protested at the waving. "You're going to hurt him!"

Wally chattered fearfully.

"What do you want??"

"He's a squirrel, and a magical squirrel at that," remarked Omen boredly. "I doubt this will hurt him much. Anyway, I've heard you guys have lotsa food. Mind if we take some?"

Anja looked to Voltaire pleadingly.

(You mean Adair I assume)

Adair nodded. "Yeah, go ahead. Voltaire's got most of it prepared already."

"Much obliged," answered Omen, letting the squirrel go and walking in.

(oh, yeah. I though voltaire was outside too)

Wally raced up Anja's legs and hid in her shirt, shaking.

"Its okay Wally" Anja cooed.

(nah, inside. Omen's annoying but usually not a threat unless in battle)

"Don't get worked up around him. He does that kind of thing to set people off and get attention," Adair said. "He's like a little kid that way."

"He's a little creep" Anja grumbled. She stepped over to Adair and embraced him lightly.

"Nobody likes him except his familiar Zahri," Adair replied, hugging back. "Apparently they're old friends or something."

Anja continued to grumble. Wally was pressed between them, so Adair could feel him quivering.

Omen came out with a large bag of food slung over his shoulder. "Thanks for the chow. I should catch strange squirrels more often." He strolled past them, humming some tune Adair didn't recognize.
