Saving Soul

"That's what I was thinking," said Adair, getting up and gathering his outfit.

Anja pulled her clothes back on easily and continued to lay on the ground.

Adair sat next to her, though he didn't lay down.

Anja laid her head in his lap with a smile. "You are the greatest hero ever." she murmured

"Well I don't know about that," said Adair, flushing slightly.

"You saved me didn't you?" Anja smiled

"You seemed kind of mad about that," teased Adair.

Anja frowned. "Because you were hurting yourself to do it."

"That happens a lot in the Hero business," said Adair. "Don't take it too personally."

Anja pursed her lips. "I can and I will"

"You can and it'll stress you out too much," said Adair. "I'm here and you're here and that's what counts."

"Fine." Anja stated stiffly.

Adair chuckled and stroked her hair. "Don't be like that."

"I can and will." Anja repeated.

Adair sighed, continuing to stroke her hair. "Fine."

Anja smiled. "Love you"

"Love you too," Adair replied.

"Food!" announced Voltaire from the outside.

"Just in time" Anja smiled

"Agreed," Adair replied, getting up.

Anja followed suit. She stepped outside. "What're we having?"

"Deer and thrush," Voltaire replied. He and Ava were already working on their pieces. Adair took a piece of deer meat for himself and began chowing down.

Anja plucked up the remaining thrush. "Smells good" She stated

"Tastes good too," added Adair.

"Wouldn't cook anything that wasn't," Voltaire replied.

Anja sat and started eating, much neater than the men.

Adair felt slightly embarrassed by his manners, but not enough to change them. He used to have much more proper manners, but they had faded from disuse. There was no clean way to eat meat without silverware and plates, and those were just too much unnecessary baggage to carry around.
