"Like I said, that's fine," Daniel replied, though he wished he could get a book to read. Still, this was his fault, so maybe he deserved not getting a book.

Daniel felt like he should be doing something to take care of her, but the shackles kept him from leaving her side. He hoped Gregory would be able to do something about them, but that was no guarantee.

"Plans of escape?" he offered, thinking of the chains.
