Have a Heart

Ellona rolled over to glare at him sleepily. She punched him hard on the shoulder. "Give it back" She snarled

"Good morning to you too," Daniel greeted blandly, but released the cover anyway. "Feeling better?"

Ellona's response was to cocoon herself in the blanket and turn away from him again.

"Is that a no?" asked Daniel. "Or are you just irritated?"

"I'm tired and my head hurts." Ellona snapped.

"Do you remember last night?" asked Daniel.

"Yes, You knocked me off the bed." Ellona growled.

"Alright, just wanted to make sure you remembered," Daniel answered. It seemed the wound would leave little lasting effect aside from a headache. "And for that I apologize. I want to see if we can get these chains off, at least for nighttime. They're hazardous."

"Good luck." Ellona snapped. "I would just climb out the window again and they know it."

Daniel gave a huff, knowing she was right. But he really did want to get the shackles off. What if something more serious happened?

"Can I go back to sleep now?" Ellona snapped

"Sure," Daniel replied. He laid back down again.

Ellona grumbled and wriggled to get comfortable.

Daniel stared up at the ceiling, willing himself to doze off. It wasn't working that well.

Ellona's breathing softened slowly in sleep.

Eventually Daniel, despite his restlessness, went to sleep as well. He noted to himself as he drifted off that he should have a couple books nearby for other occasions like this.

The next time Ellona woke was around noon. She didn't move from under the blanket, just shifted restlessly.

Daniel was still asleep when there was a knock on the door. He groaned and turned over.

Ellona grumbled and elbowed him hard in the back.

Daniel relunctantly got up. He had just been getting a good sleep too.

"If I get up, you have to as well," Daniel reminded, rustling the chain slightly.

"Well aware" Ellona snapped.

"Just making sure you don't hit your head again," Daniel replied, as they headed over to the door.

Ellona kept the blanket wrapped around her snuggly.

Daniel opened the door. "Yes?"

"You still sleeping in there?" Gregory asked, fully dressed at the door.
