Adair chuckled, knowing that had happened before. Everyone who didn't know better assumed Adair's fall from grace was Voltaire's fault. In truth it was the opposite.

"Don't know if that's exactly how I would describe it," answered Voltaire. "But it feels damn satisfying, especially if it all goes according to plan."

"I feel better helping people out," chimed in Adair with some annoyance.

"Yeah, yeah, to each his own."

"Nothing," Voltaire replied. "It's just such a goody-two-shoes response."

Adair snorted and turned his back toward Anja, finishing up his meal.

"Oh no, Mr. Hero's having an hissy fit," Voltaire teased. "Whatever will we do?"

Adair continued to ignore them.

"Stop fighting," Ava sighed. She leaned over to preen Adair's hair.

Anja sighed and repositioned herself so she could lean against Adair.

After Ava was done with Adair's hair she went over to work on Anja's.

Ava gave an unhappy warble but left Anja's hair alone. Instead she went to preen Voltaire's, who gave a loud protest that was ignored.

Anja leaned back against Adair again and tried to relax.

Voltaire eventually stopped his complaining and quietly accepted the grooming. Once he stopped resisting he seemed to enjoy it. Then Ava came over and draped one wing over Adair and Anja, leaving the other one up for Voltaire to go under.
