Saving Soul

Anja thought about it a second. "Na. I'll stick with the surprise"

"Alright," Voltaire replied, annoyed that he had been robbed of his fun.

Their usual basilisk-man doctor came in. He eyed the three changelings on Ava's back lazily.

"So there's a new one, eh?"

"Yep! This one's Anjy!" Ava chirped back.

"Anja" Anja corrected lazily.

"Right," the basilisk doctor replied, jotting down notes. "Take your seats over there and we'll get the shots over with. For Volty's sake."

Voltaire shot a glare at him.

"Want me to hold him down?" Anja smiled

"I've got basilisk eyes for that," the basilisk doctor replied coolly as he prepared the shots. The liquid inside them was red and yellow layered on top of each other in a stripe pattern.

Anja looked intrigued at the shot. "What's that?" She asked

"The imfamous soul shot," the basilisk doctor replied with a smirk. "Let me demonstrate."

The serpent man turned to Voltaire, his eyes briefly flashing. Voltaire's body seized up and then went limp. During Voltaire's paralysis he injected him with the shot.

Anja tilted her head and waited.

Voltaire coughed as the paralysis spell released and he could breathe again. Already he felt the nausea building up. He grew pale as he swallowed repeatedly, and then retched up a cloud of black with white flecks on it.

Anja looked at the cloud in surprise. "Is that soul?" She asked.

"Yep," the snakeman replied, as the misty mass was soon sucked into a jar he opened. He examined the dark contents. "Volty here has some of the worst luck I've ever seen."

Voltaire gave a faint grumble in reply. He looked exhausted.

Anja snorted. "If he has bad luck then I'm a walking plague."

"I'm the freaking plague already," Voltaire mumbled. "You'd have to be the freaking triple-six beast to beat me."

(For all the crap and bad luckshe's been through, I really doubt her luck is as bad as Voltaire's lol)

"Whatever. I haven't heard anything from you that's half as bad as the crap I've had to deal with." Anja rolled her eyes

(They're probably about even or damn close to it lol. Merry xmas)

Voltaire snorted, but was too tired to keep up the arguing.

"So, does that mean you're next?" the dcotor asked Anja with a smirk, as he went over to prepare the next shot.

(I would say they'd be pretty close. Merry xmas to you too)

"Why not" Anja shrugged. She held out her arm and waited.

"Ah, a calmer patient, are we?" The basilisk doctor remarked as he walked over and gave her the shot.

Anja waited for the shot to kick in. It only took a moment before she grew nauseous. Suddenly she retched up a small blackish cloud, similar to what the Gales made her cough up before her 'execution'

"Hmm, luck's almost as bad as Volty's," the doctor remarked absently, as a new jar sucked it up. "However do you survive with such bad luck charms, Ava?"

"Don't tease," hissed Ava, her feathers fluffing up slightly in indignation. "I care about my changelings."

"Of course," the snakeman replied, going over to fill the final soul shot for Adair. The redhead loathed it but did not dread it. It was like a forced Chiaroscuro.

"Okay, now I know why you don't like that" Anja muttered to Voltaire.

"Told you," Voltaire muttered.

Adair patiently waited for his shot. When he finally received it he soon hurled up a cloud of evenly black-and-white mist, much like his bright-dark state except not in flame form and not as much emotional numbness.

"What're the two colors for?" Anja asked

"White is good luck and black is bad luck," the doctor explained, as he sucked up Adair's ejected soul mass with a third jar. "Though if you ask most naive humans they think that white is goodness and black is badness."

"That's color profiling." Anja remarked. "Why would black be bad and white be good?"
