Saving Soul

"...Right," Caleb replied a bit nervously.

Just then a brunette girl ran over to Adair cheerfully. "Hi Fiery!"

"...Hi Belle."

Anja frowned. She picked at her food with a sour expression. "So, Addy, what exactly goes on here?" she asked

"Fights, food, spars, fights," Adair replied boredly. "Though we and the other changelings hang out sometimes too. It's nice to have other changelings to be around when mostly we're hunted."

"I know," Caleb replied with a sour expression. "We've had at least three packs of Hunters on our tail while traveling here. Makes it hard to even hunt when you have to worry about guns and traps."

"You think you had it hard." Anja snorted. "I died. Or at least I should have." She looked at Adair. "Did I die at all?" she asked

"...Some," Adair replied, though he seemed uncomfortable with the subject. "Ava says that's normal for changelings though. I mean, you get your heart snatched from your chest and it takes a little bit for the demon energy system to start working, so..."

"I ment before She took my heart. Did it stop beating at all?" Anja asked. "Was I really dead?"

"It was hard to tell," Adair admitted. "You were out for longer than usual, so maybe it quit right before then?"

"Wait, what happened? Why did she almost die?" asked Belle, getting a little too close for Adair's liking. He blew a little flame in warning.

"I shoved Adair out of the way of a hero's sword when he was in his weird churry-whatsits." Anja sat a little straighter. "And I have the scar to prove it."

"Gales?" asked Caleb.

Adair nodded.

"Jackasses tried drugging with truth serum." Anja grumbled.

"Ouch," Caleb replied. "Still, better than being dead."

"Did you not hear him? Technically I was dead." Anja stated. "By the way, I'm still mad at you for what you did about it." She gave Adair a small glare and poked his side.

"Better than staying dead, I mean," Caleb corrected.

Adair sighed. "I was desperate."

"I don't care. The whole reason I left you guys and went to the village was to keep you out of trouble to begin with" Anja snapped. "And you went And almost got yourself killed."

"I agree, I'm a moron," Adair replied. "But I wouldn't have been able to live with myself otherwise."

Anja glared at him, unable to come up with a suitable comeback.

"Hey, be nice to Fiery," Belle growled. "He looks after other people. That's what makes him a good person."

"I am nice to Addy, Mind your own business mutt" Anja snapped, turning her glare to Belle.

"I'm a wolf," Belle growled back, also glaring.

"Ladies and wolves, calm down," interjected Caleb, trying to diffuse the situation.

"Wolves are mutts anyway." Anja glared, ignoring Caleb entirely.

"I don't like you. You're like Volty," Belle answered.

"I don't give a damn what you think about me. And you know what?" Anja shoved Belle away from Adair and leaned against him. "He still likes me better than you."

Belle fell back with a yelp, and then began growling deeply. She shifted to full wolf form.

"Stop it, both of you!" protested Adair.

Anja looked bored. "Whatever. You don't scare me."

Caleb shifted to wolf form himself and went over to Belle, trying to calm her down. She growled at him.
