Haniel Regius was the First Prince of Dranatu, preordained to inherit the throne because he was the first prince in over a century to be born with pure white hair, the color of the royal family. Because of this, he had been alternately coddled and very sternly trained; despite this, he was a young man with very firm morals, morals that differed widely from those of his family. It was common practice for Dragoons to completely disregard Faeries as an inferior race, and it was strictly forbidden for anyone of the royal family to fraternize with them, but Haniel insisted on attending a Faerie school in addition to the tutoring that he received at home. It was forbidden at first, of course, but Haniel was quite firm about it, and his demands were eventually met.

His first day of real school he dressed himself in a set of some of his brightest clothes in hopes to fit in with the Faeries; the outfit was all bright reds and golds that made his hair and eyes stand out beautifully against his tanned skin. He grabbed his bag and, stepping to the balcony, unfurled his wings and flew off in the direction of the Faerie town he'd be getting very familiar with very soon.

Kei was already on his way to school. He and his sister lived on the other side of the town so they had to leave early to get there on time. Kei was wearing a pair of worn breeches, with the knees patched and a baggy brightly colored tunic. His sister was wearing similar clothing, though he was carrying the frailer blue-haired girl.

Kei talked non-stop to the girl to keep her mind off the trip but it seemed to keep them both amused, even after a few larger, meaner looking fairy boys started following them. Once they reached the school, however, it was a different story. Kei took his sister to her class and the other boys waited outside the room for Kei.

"Don't go Kei" The girl pleaded. "Stay with me"

"I can't Aki" Kei sighed. He ruffled her hair before straightening and walking back out.

The largest of the fairy boys smirked and put his arm around Kei's shoulders, directing him back out of the building and towards the surrounding woodland.

Haniel had just landed in front of the school and was arranging his wings on his back when he saw the boys walking out. He hurried over, his bag clutched to his chest, to ask for directions to his class.

"Excuse me, gentlemen," he called.

Kei didn't even glance up.

The other two boys stopped while the third continued to lead Kei away. "Hello your majesty, what brings a dragoon out to our lowly town?" One asked as they both gave slight bows.

Haniel smiled brightly and waved a hand at them dismissively. "None of that formality is necessary. I'm going to be attending school with you, starting today, and I was hoping to get some assistance finding my classes. ...Where are those two going? Aren't classes scheduled to start soon?"

"Oh, yeah, but see, Haru is going to do some last minute tutoring for Kei" One boy stated.

The other nodded in agreement. "They do it every day"

"Oh, I see..." Haniel said, unsure. Something about the way they said it made him suspicious, and he felt like he should press the matter further, but on the other hand he didn't want to be late on his first day of school. Eventually his punctuality won out over his curiosity.

"Then, could one of you two show me to my class, by chance?"

"As you wish, your majesty" The first boy smiled. They both led him into the building to the correct classroom. "anything else we can help you with?"

Haniel smiled brightly and shook his head. "No, I don't think so. And, please, just call me Haniel. What were your names?"

"I'm Rina" the tawny haired boy smiled

"And I'm Aoi" The violet haired boy smiled

Haniel smiled and cocked his head slightly to the side. "It's nice to meet you both. Perhaps we'll have some classes together later in the day."

"Maybe" Aoi chirped.

Kei carried Aki outside and sat her under a tree for lunch. He smiled at her, though his movements were stiff, like he was in pain. "Mom packed us some good stuff today" He handed her her lunch bag. "Maybe if you eat enough healthy stuff you'll get better"

Aki didn't meet his eye.

Kei sighed and plopped down next to her, giving out a sharp his of pain at his all but forgotten 'injury'.

Haniel walked out of the school, looking around for someplace to eat his lunch, and recognized Kei from earlier that morning. He scampered over, chipper. "Hello! You're name is Kei, isn't it? I'm Haniel. Do you mind if I eat lunch with you?"

Kei looked at Haniel blankly. "Why would you want to sit with us?"

Aki elbowed Kei. "Of course you can sit with us your majesty!"

Haniel blushed and sat down beside them. "Really, you don't have to call me that. Haniel will do just fine."

He opened his lunch box and looked inside, studying the contents before looking over at what the other two had for lunch. A smile suddenly spread across his face and he handed each of them a cookie and a piece of tropical fruit. He had done some research on what Faeries liked to eat, and had packed his lunch accordingly. He knew they were mostly vegetarians, so he'd not packed anything with meat in it, much to his nutritionist's horror, and he knew they liked sweets, so he'd packed plenty of sweet things as well.

Kei immediately gave what was given to him to Aki, who blushed and protested, until he put it right in her mouth with a smile.

Aki's lunch had bread and juice and fruit while Kei only had an apple.

"You should eat more, you know," Haniel said matter-of-factly, looking at Kei's lunch. He took a drink from the canteen in his lunchbox and made a face at the taste of the contents. He was eating vegetarian for the benefit of the Faeries, but he really could not stand the taste of that fake milk. He would have much preferred to have some nice, cold dragon milk. He sighed and offered the rest to Kei. "Here, drink this. I think you'll appreciate it more than me, and you don't have much for lunch."

Kei shook his head. "I don't eat much. No appetite." He smiled falsely "Sides, I don't like milk. Stuff makes me feel sick"

"Well... if you say so," he said hesitantly. He offered the canteen to Aki, smiling. "What about you? And I don't think I got your name, miss."

Aki blushed and looked away shyly. "My name's Aki, and I couldn't... I already have so much and I'm not sure I can finish it all"

"Well, if you're sure, Aki," he said with a sigh. He grimaced at the canteen but tilted his head back and drained it quickly. "I hate to waste food."

"I feel the same" Aki blushed.

Kei carefully carried Aki out of the building. "We'll go home now and mom'll make you something nice for dinner." He smiled

Haru was waiting outside with a smirk. "What took you so long?"

Kei grimaced. "Can't I take Aki home first?" He pleaded

Haniel had just stepped out of the school and overheard the exchange. The hair on the back of his neck and the backs of his arms stood on end, and his wings clenched tight against his back; he knew something was wrong with that picture. Something was wrong there, and he intended to find out what it was and put a stop to it.
