Some Things Just Can't Be Understood

"Alright then!" Maple replied, before pausing. He would be able to go anywhere with Pheobie sitting on him (and now he finally noticed the skirt, to his embarrassment) but Pheobie showed no interest in moving. Finally he decided to compromise and pick her up. "To the storage room!" he announced, carrying her along.

Pheobie smiled and clung to him tighter. "Are you going to teach me to dance now?" Kimi asked happily.

"Well I don't know squat either, so I don't know if 'teach' is the best word for it," Maple admitted. "Let's say we are about to dabble in the dance experience to see if we can start a new trend, eh?"

Pheobie giggled. "Okay. Let's try our best then."

Maple had to put Pheobie down in order to open the storage door. "Now where did I put that CD Player?"

"In the box labeled Misc." Pheobie chirped helpfully. "And that stuff over there-" She pointed to a few loose items "-Is all things for you to sort through"

"Ah, I see," Maple replied, scurrying over to the random mix of leftover items. "So I should really ask where did you put it from now on."

He shuffled through the items, coming across some things that he 'd thought he lost and other things he wondered why he kept. He kept everything anyway as he searched. "Should be here somewhere..."

"Should be towards the back of the box" Pheobie helped

Maple worked toward the back until he finally reached the CD Player. It was blue and white and slightly banged up, but it still worked. He found a pile of CD cases next to it and scooped them up along with the player.

"Okay that should do it. I'm thinking the lounge area would be the best place to try this. We should have lots of room once we move the chairs and couches back."

Pheobie smiled. "Okay, so long as you don't fall on me" she teased

"I wouldn't dream of it," Maple announced soberly as they left the storage room. "Though that doesn't mean it won't happen anyway, given my two left feet."

"You have two left feet?" Pheobie asked in awe, having never heard the expression before "That must make it tough to find shoes"

Maple laughed at the sincerity of her answer. "It means I'm clumsy. Though it would be interesting to find someone who actually does have two left feet. And yes, I imagine that would make shoe shopping difficult."

"Oooooooooooooooooooooh" Pheobie replied. "Sorry, I never talked to many people. I don't get a lot of expressions."

"Oh, I confuse people all the time because I get expressions from everything," Maple replied simply. "Choir in the chaos, for example. It basically means the order hidden among the chaos, or some that seems random but is not."

"Oh! that's kinda deep" Pheobie grinned. "I like it. It describes you"

"It's from my old Chief," Maple explained. "He was good with expressions and that kind of thing. But my point that when you travel worlds you hear all kinds of expressions, and a lot of the odd ones stick with you even though they make no sense elsewhere. Like 'Do not walk the ground that holds you'. At first I thought they meant don't step into quicksand, but it really means you have to leave home eventually."

"Oh. That's really deep too." Pheobie nodded. "Do you have anymore?"

"Loads more. Let's see..." Maple began. " 'Hammer beating the anvil'. That one's often misunderstood. Everyone feels sorry for the anvil getting banged on by the hammer, but actually it's the hammer that's more likely to break. And 'Bolt of the blue'. Basically means something that comes out of nowhere whatsoever."

Pheobie nodded. "You should write them all down"

( O_o Is it really? I thought I made that up XD. Whatever, it suits Maple)

"I have a book of them somewhere in my room," said Maple. "It's about as thick as a dictionary, if not thicker."

Pheobie's face seemed to light up. "Can I read it?" she asked

"You can if I can find it," said Maple, setting the music supplies on the lounge couch as they arrived. "Though it will take weeks to read at this point. Feel free to add any sayings you know that you don't see."

"Thank you" Pheobie smiled happily. "Are we going to dance now?"

"Once I move furniture," said Maple, pushing around the chairs and couches. They were on wheels so it wasn't that hard to do. "Now, what kind of music do you like?"
