Sweet as Sugar

"Uh-huh," Melly answered. "Um, could go let go of me?"

"Yeah. Sorry" Mu grinned, letting her go. He sat up and rubbed his eyes.

Melly stayed where she was, watching Mu. She felt his tail twitching against her and was tempted to hold it.

"Did you have any good dreams?" Mu asked, smiling at her. "I did. I dremt you saw my act at the cirque and I gave you origami flowers."

"That does sound nice," Melly replied whimsically. "I...dreamt about my parents again. When I got my first puppy and was chasing after it."

"Sounds nice." Mu sighed. "I wish Edwin would have let us have a puppy"

"He was a nice dog," Melly went on. "He loved everybody. He was big, but he was gentle. He liked barking at stuff. Sometimes that made people mad."

"Eh. Dirven said us imps were better than dogs." Mu smiled.

"Has he ever had a dog?" asked Melly. "Not that you imps aren't nice yourselves. It's just...a different kind of nice, I guess."

"Dirvin was the animal trainer." Mu stated. "He had all kinds of animals."

"Well I guess it depends on the dog too," said Melly. "There are lots of dogs. Like I knew someone with a Jack Russell. It was nice, but it was really hyper and always wanted to bite my nose. Then I knew someone with a basset hound. It was really lazy and shy. So I guess it varies."

"Like imps all have different personalities?" Mu asked

"Anything alive has different personalities," said Melly. "Well, except maybe plants. And bacteria."

Mu smiled. "Yup"

"...Do you even know what bacteria are?" Melly asked.

"Nope" Mu chuckled.

"I thought so," Melly replied a little dryly. "They're like animals so small you can't even see them. They're were simple creatures. They're also can make you sick, if you get the wrong kind inside of you."

Mu's eyes widened. "Really?" he breathed in awe.

"Yeah," Melly replied. "I had a scientist girl friend once. She had something called a microscope that makes it possible to see really small things like that."

"Awesome!" Mu chirped in excitement.

"I don't know where she is now," Melly admitted. "I try to keep track of people, but sometimes that just doesn't happen."

"Its okay. I believe you" Mu grinned.

"Thanks," Melly answered, leaning against him.

Mu smiled and nuzzled her neck.

Melly shuddered a little. "...Mu, what do you do when someone's heart rots out and you don't know why?"
