"That too," answered Voltaire as he ate some beans. "Even though we changelings get on each other's nerves and have to fight each other, outside we're pretty much on our own."

Kimi nodded. "Yep."

Voltaire sighed. "With any luck it won't be long now until we can get to the big tournament. The prize there is supposed to be powerful enough to do just about anything. Maybe it can fix Adair's heart, or at least make us strong enough to deal with the Gales. Then we won't have to be changelings anymore and things can go back to how they used to be, mostly."

"Are you sure my healing wouldn't help?" Kimi asked

"Like I said, it isn't what they put in him. It's what they took out," Voltaire answered. "There's a hole in the key part of his heart. We're trying to heal or at least fill that hole so his heart will work right."

"Are you sure they took it out? Maybe they suppressed it" Kimi suggested

"Raizin checked it with his heartsight. It's a goddamn hole," Voltaire answered as he munched on a cucumber. "All the Gales have holes in their hearts according to him. Adair's is just smaller than the rest since they didn't finish with him."

"Oh." Kimi mumbled. "Well I hope there's a way to fix him"

"Using the soul prizes seems to be helping. It's been closing the hole bit by bit," explained Voltaire. "So if we win the big tournament, maybe that'll heal up his heart for good."

Kimi smiled. "We can hope can't we?" her gave was drawn to the doorway behind him. "There are the wolves. Caleb seems much better."

"Oh hey," Voltaire greeted lazily.

"Hi!" Belle greeted back cheerfully. "Caleb's a lot better now."

"Yeah," answered the brunette, looking a bit embarrassed. "Anyway...yeah, sorry about the other day. I was feeling bad, but I didn't think it was that bad."

Kimi ducked her head shyly to keep eating.

"Oh, I didn't get to thank you in person," said Caleb to Kimi. "So, uh, thanks for healing me and stuff. How did you do that, by the way."

"She kissed you and sucked the extra demonic energy out," Voltaire replied matter-of-factly as he continued with his meal.

"Oh," Caleb replied, before he fully registered the words and went beet red. "Wait, what?"

"You got a problem with that?" Voltaire asked with a smirk.

"N-No, it's just...ah, erm..."

Kimi innocently popped a grape into her mouth. She still wouldn't talk to anyone but Adair and Voltaire and Ava.

Caleb glanced over to Kimi. "She's so quiet."

"You're loud," Voltaire answered, tossing an apple core at him.

"You're one to talk," Caleb replied dryly. "Whatever, I'm getting some food before the place shuts down. I see Belle's already started.

The wolf girl was sitting on the floor, gnawing at a lamb leg.

Kimi finished off her grapes and started on her apple.

Voltaire snickered. "Excellent table manners as usual, I see."

"She's getting better, believe it or not," replied Caleb with a sigh. "She's just really hungry now. She wasn't eating much before since she was worried."

"Fair enough," Voltaire answered.

"I'm starving too. Later," said Caleb, heading for the food.

"What's up with him?" Kimi asked. "He seemed flustered."

Voltaire chuckled. "Don't mind him. He's not used to being kissed."

Kimi frowned. "I didn't kiss him, I healed him." She stated

"It is to him," Voltaire replied. "But whatever, we know better. He wouldn't get it."

Kimi frowned at him still. "You are the only one I kiss, and the only one that I ever will kiss." She stated

"I know Angel," Voltaire answered with a smile, rustling her hair a little. "I guess it's just kinda of a...translation error between our cultures or whatever. Your idea of kissing is different than ours, or something." He tried to think of a good example.

"Demons don't kiss. They bite." Kimi replied, swatting his hand away lightly.

"Oh," Voltaire replied, deciding not to inquire further. "Well, I bite too. Sometimes."
