Rain Dance

"Love you too," Voltaire answered, soon falling asleep.

Kimi laid with him, dozing but not really sleeping.

A half-hour later (Adair's sense of time had been off), Ava arrived and picked them up for the match. Voltaire was still a bit groggy from just waking up, but otherwise felt rested.

Kimi was fine. She smiled shyly as they entered the cavern. "Good luck" She whispered to the boys.

Voltaire just smiled and nodded back as Ava landed and he and Adair got off. The Wolves weren't there yet, but they would be there soon. Probably a late lunch.

Kimi remained on Ava's back. "do you think they'll win?" She asked her

"Yep!" Ava chirped back. "We've only lost once to the Wolves, and that was because we were new and didn't know what we were doing yet. We have a type advantage, fire over ice."

The Wolves arrived a few minutes later, riding on Fenrir's large white back. They descended, waiting for the match to start.

Kimi made a small 'oh' before silent. She shifted nervously.

The dog demon howled, and both sides rushed for each other. Both Caleb and Belle has shifted to partial wolf forms, staying bipedal but having claws and increased speed.

Kimi's eyes widened slightly. She hadn't ever seen them really fight before.

Voltaire shot out a few blasts of fire to keep Caleb at a distance. He did not want to tangle with the Wolves in close combat. Nearby Adair was doing the same thing with Belle.

Many ice shards formed in the air around Caleb and shot toward Voltaire. The Hunter blocked them by spinning around and spitting fire back.

"oh, is this good?" Kimi asked Ava.

Ava nodded, focused more on the match than on Kimi.

Belle had shifted to full wolf form, and was giving Adair a hard time. He drove her back with forceful flaming blows, but not before she had gotten on some good bites on his arms and legs.

Caleb was also shifting, but Voltaire didn't give him time to fully change. He nailed the mostly-wolf with a strong dose of firebreath before charging in with melee attacks. Caleb struck Voltaire with point-blank ice shards and ice breath, and then passed out. Dauntless of the wounds, Voltaire dashed over to help Adair.

Kimi bit her lip. From the look of it, Voltaire might have to stay in the medical wing for a while.

With both Phoenixes ganging up, it didn't take long for the two of them to take down Belle. The demon dog howled again, and Voltaire let out a proud stream of fire upward.

Kimi bit her lip, her sharp little fangs drawing blood.

Voltaire and Adair walked back over to Ava, bloody but able to walk. Ava clucked and blew some white flames over them before they climbed aboard. Voltaire noticed Kimi's bleeding lips with some alarm.

"Hey hey, it's okay," he soothed, embracing her.

Kimi embraced him tightly. "You got hurt." She mumbled into his shirt. "You weren't careful at all" she accused

Voltaire rubbed her back. "I know. I'm sorry. I suck at being careful," he replied, resting his head own her shoulder.

Kimi pouted up at him. "But you promised"

"I know," Voltaire replied, giving her a light kiss on the mouth. He drew away with a funny look and his tongue smacking awkwardly. "Your blood tastes weird."

Kimi blushed lighlty. "Sorry" She mumbled, wiping the blood away on the back of her hand.

"Meh, trying to be all romantic, only it didn't work," Voltaire replied, sticking his tongue out.

Kimi looked up at him with a pout. "Now you'll have to stay in the medical wing longer." she stated

Voltaire kissed on the top of her head. "I know. I get what I deserve."
