Some Things Just Can't Be Understood

Goldie craned his neck up and opened his mouth wide like a nestling would, flapping his wings a little.

Pheobie giggled "Alright, I"ll get you some more" She smiled, getting up.

Maple chuckled some as he watched the scene. He took some of the crackers and dipped them into his soup before eating them.

Pheobie picked up his bowl and carried it to the kitchen to fill it back up.

Goldie waited not-so-patiently, squirming in place and whining.

Pheobie carried the full bowl out and set it in front of him.

The bowl had hardly hit the floor before Goldie's face was in it, eating away gluttonously.

"Little piggy" Pheobie giggled.

"I know," Maple agreed, watching the noisy feast with amusement. "You'd think we starve him around here."

"Maybe that's why he's getting bigger" Pheobie mused

"He's growing and needs lots of food. That's why he's getting bigger," said Maple. "At some point he'll be too big to travel on the ship."

"How big do they get?" Pheobie asked

"Hmm...about 15-20 feet," Maple replied. "Depends on the species. Some are pygmies topping at seven feet but at the rate he's growing I doubt he's one of them."

"What'll we do when he gets that big?" Pheobie asked with a frown

"I don't know," admitted Maple. "But I don't think that should be for a while yet. Still, we'll need to keep it in mind."

"I really hope he doesn't get too big" Pheobie pouted.

"I agree. He's a handful as it is," Maple replied, as the griffin pup finished his meal and curled up contently by the bowl. "And I'd rather not have to leave him."

"He's like family" Pheobie agreed

"Where would you like to live later on?" asked Maple. "We're just heading for a woodsy tourist place now. Where would you like to seriously live, at least for a while?"

Pheobie blinked at him stupidly. "What? You mean we'll be living somewhere for real?" She asked

"Well, I think it would be best when the kid's born, at least for a while," Maple answered. "If nothing else we need to be able to get you to a hospital to deliver the pup."

"well, I guess that's true... But why do I have to choose? I don't know much about other worlds" Pheobie pouted.

"Well, I'm more asking for suggestions than a choice," answered Maple. "I want to make sure it's a place you like. I can live just about anywhere."

"I can live anywhere you are" Pheobie replied with a small smile. She got up and moved to sit next to him on the couch.

"I would like to be in a private place on the mountains to be honest," said Maple. "But the kid needs some socialization besides us."
