Some Things Just Can't Be Understood

"Boys have probably left that area a while ago, though we could go check later," replied Maple. Upon reaching the control room he looked outside and frowned. It was pouring rain.

Pheobie got up and followed him. She smiled when she saw the rain. She loved rain.

Maple liked the rain too, but not when he wanted to go outside for his vacation. "What rotten timing," he mumbled.

"How is rain rotten?" Pheobie asked "When its gone, it leave behind a rainbow"

"True," replied Maple. "But I never said the rain was rotten. It's the timing that's rotten. Walks aren't much fun out in the pouring rain."

"Why don't we wait then?" Pheobie asked with a smile.

"Don't have much choice," replied Maple, sitting in his chair to watch the rain run down the sides of the windows and windshield. It really was quite nice.

Pheobie slipped into his lap and tucked her head under his chin.

Maple wrapped his arms around he as he listened to the rain. Aside from the myriad drops there was no noise, not even from the ship.

Pheobie sighed softly. She loved the rain. The rain made everything the same dull gray, and then the rainbow brought all the color back when the rain stopped.

Maple closed his eyes as he relaxed to the rain's lullaby.

"Bre," he heard from somewhere below.

Maple glanced down to see Adrianne next to seat. She looked cranky.

Pheobie hummed softly. "Hi Adrianne" She mumbled happily.

Adrianne hopped up, trying to find someplace close to Maple that wasn't already occupied by Pheobie.

Pheobie yawned softly and snuggled Maple's chest sleepily. The sound of rain was becoming more like a lullaby for her.

"Breeee," whined Adrianne, curling into Pheobie's lap because she had no choice.

"Oh stop fussing," Maple chided to the Umbreon.

"Skye, I'm sleepy" Pheobie murmured without opening her eyes.

"Me too," Maple replied. Adrianne yawned in spite of herself, though she did knead Pheobie slightly.

Pheobie winced at the umbreon's claws.

"Stop that," Maple scolded, battign away her paws. Adrianne grumbled and settled for nibbling on the sleeve of Maple's coat.

Pheobie gave another small yawn. "Night, Skye" She murmured

"Mmmhmm," Maple hummed back, already mostly asleep.

Pheobie easily drifted into slumber.

The bright sunshine woke Maple hours later. He tried to squint and turn away, only to find himself pinned under both Pheobie and Adrianne.

Pheobie was still deeply asleep, her face hidden in his chest with her head tucked under his chin. She mumbled something softly as she nuzzled him.

Maple smiled a little, strking her hair. Adrianne, also wanting attention, hiked up Pheobie and made herself comfortable on top of Maple's head. She batted at his glasses.
